So what does the monster weight , ???? i have all my crap apart ready to go machine shop for clean up, my block is still in the bay and i am gonna go yank it out tonight , well my buddy disconected the transmission by an accident last night so i am just gonna pull the block by itself, not putting those bolts back. i am taking engine brackets(engine mount brackets ) right off the block(4 bolts per side) so i can just braker bar the block forward 4-5 inches to clerar transmission shaft than lift it up and out. Or i can just lower my cross member by losening the main bolts by 1" or so and leave the engine mount brackets on the block.Other alternative was to jack up by the transmission till engine mounts clear and than pull the block forward off the transmission shaft and than up/out..

what do u guys think ? cuz i know trying to go up and forward to take the block off is a butch...

Before i was going to rent a hoist , but now its just a block no head no transmission , can i lift the bastart out with just me and buddy using our muscles haha , cuz i seen some people carry ka blocks on their own to machine shop./ so the 2 of us should be able to lift it am i right ??

lol!

Yeah haha okay, its going to be a huge pain. The splines on the transmission sometimes like to let go, sometimes they dont. You'll either get lucky or you wont.

I usually leave the metal part of the mounts attached to the block, and unbolt the 1 bolt holding them onto the rubber part. You shouldnt have to mess with the crossmember at all. It might be easier to get a jack under your transmission and put it back up so that its not hanging there and causing weird pressures on the splines and mounts which will make it harder to get out.

Careful pulling that block out. Its not THAT heavy by itself (liftable by 1 person for sure), but you dont have much of an angle on it in the bay so take care of your back... its suprisingly easy to pull a muscle like that and if you do, youll be out of commission and in pain for at least a week.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

are you sure you saw people just pulling just the block? or the block with the cranks, rods & pistons? cause that adds some weight, specially the crank:).

.....fiz nailed it right on the head...I can pick up the assembled block and carry it...two people no problem....but pullin' it out of an engine bay's a totally different story, you're gonna have some fun

Don't do it man, Fiz is absolutely right about pulling a muscle. During some wrenching recently I had to get into some wierd angles and pulled a tendon in my leg (dont know how this happened, its was a pretty non-related position but the human body is a wierd thing) Its been 3 weeks of daily hell in my right thigh and my doc says I have a month to go... get a hoist and save yourself the headache.

Glad to hear you got the cherry picker :D

Machine shop prices dont seem too bad. Since you're having them hot tank it, I would have them do the hone for you as well. Honing leaves behind all kinds of little bits of metal that need to removed, and hot tanking really is THE way to do that. A quick hone should be cheap, have them do that and then hot tank the block.

Clevite prices look a little expensive but not too too bad. Find out if the shop can get you a good price on the full felpro gasket kit. Make sure they get you the 240sx KA kit, NOT the Altima KA kit-- my shop messed that up last time.

Post pics when you get some!

yah they are honing it its included in clean up before hot tank .Well prices are in CAN $ and my nissan oem quote was 60$ normal rings 80$ main 40 $ rod so clevite isn't that much more and a well known brand people trust.Last year i put in a fellpro gasket kit. This year damnit i will have to get another hgasket. Fell pro is great!
