so I bought a RB20det to put into my 91 240sx. When i got it in it the rb20 alternator wasn't giving enough juice to keep the car running. we tested it and it was the alt, it would keep it running for ten minor so. so I'm at the point where i don't have the money for a quest alt and heard that you could switch the cores of the rb and ka. I was wondering what would be the best way about going about it. thanks for your time

Just take it to a shop and have it rebuilt.Thats what I'm going to do.I think my alternator is shot also.

I dunno about swapping the internals of the KA Alternator. But this is the first I've heard about this.

Hey,I just googled RB20DET alternator and I found this:zerothread/307424

mucho thanks on the info and help

I read on a thred about a person having a rb 240sx and the guy before had swaped the two cores...

I've read that thred before and totally tried to put the ka alt on and looked way too out of place for it to work...

legit- in that link i posted.read a couple down and there was a guy who said the guy he bought his from swapped the internals from the ka alt into the rb alt.

And then below there are instructions to swap the KA alt onto the RB without welding.Just slotting and cutting.

I can verify that a KA24E alternator is nearly a bolt on affair, don't even need to swap housings..you just have to notch out the upper or lower bolt hole on the upper swing bracket so that you can drop it down a tiny bit. I am currently running a factory KA24E alt on my rb20 (have ran 3 different ones)...all of the other hardware bolts up as well. You just have to use a hacksaw to trim off the back of the pushin bushing thing...I'll try to get pix if you need them

Yeah pics would be cool.I'm in need of an alternator.

I was just going to take my alternator and rebuild it.But if this is cheaper and easier I'll hold off.
