Apparently PDMRacing's cams are regrinds. Are JWT cams regrinds as well?

Obviously, a regrind is going to have the same LCA for all intents and purposes. And by looking at the cam arrangement of a KA24DE, it appears to me that the LCA is quite wide. Does anyone have any experience with using the JWT adjustable cam sprockets to try and vary the LCA?

I dont think JWT are regrinds, Iam sure they buy blank cams and grind their own spec. Nismo cams are not regrinds either.

Problem lies in the billets. There are only a couple other sources other than nissan itself, and those sources dont sell them to the general public without a very large order.

That is main underlying cost of performance ka24de camshafts, the actual profile design and grinding is a $50.00 job.

What's so special about the billets, if anything?

Also, do you know the LCA for the DOHC cams (heck, even the LCA for the SOHC cam?)

I dont have those specs offhand, seperation angle of my single cams are left unchanged, I would have to give my cam grinder a call to find out.

I plan to be ordering a datamite cam analyzer here soon actually, to add to all of the equipment I have been buying lately.

The dual cam would require a either twin mic/encoder pickup electronic analyzer with a single degree wheel, or a single mic/encoder with degree/rotary wheels and pickups on each cam, assembled valvetrain. Their may be some oldschool equipment that can do it, im not sure.

To measure LCA? You can do that with a protractor. Just set it to TDC and put the flat edge of the protractor straight up. Then measure the ehaust cam the same way and add the angles together. Obviously not as accurate as a degree wheel, but certainly a lot cheaper. I'm just looking for a rough idea of the LCA really.

It seems to me that what the KA needs is a really late intake closing with a wide lobe centerline. Since with a longer stroke and the long intake runners, the charge is always going to have more momentum than usual. The woefully small selection of cams for the DOHC KA is depressingly hindering, though. At least it's DOHC so I can get some adjustable gears and fiddle with the LCA myself...

Do do it that way you are going to need quite a jig on the front of the block and head. You will need to lay your protractor against a line parallel to the crank/bore centerline , and then you would need a gauge (rigged up depth gauge would work) to give you an idea of your lobe centerline so you can reference with your protractor. You would need 2 straight edges parallel to either side of the crank at the camshaft base circle centers. A couple of large degree wheels would probably come in handy as well.

Or I guess you could eyeball, but that isnt going to tell you much as you can easily be off a few important degrees and you cant accurately repeat for comparisons.

I meant just set the crank to TDC by the markings and measure completely from the cams, by just holding the thing straight up. You could put a triangle against the upper chain cover to figure out where "straight up" is pretty exactly. Like I said, not as good as a degree wheel but I don't really need a perfect measurement anyway.

Hey man whatever works, measure it once and roll the engine over and try again. If you can repeat your result it will accomplish what your after.

My only worry about it is that I think the timing marks on my aftermarket crank pulley are a bit off. Though, I guess it'll still come out right for LCA, it'll just seem like my cams aren't straight up.

Cam upgrade for s14 ka's u can swap 2 91 kade exhaust cams, what I did. Just drop in, about 10hp thru entire powerband. I think almost same as nismo cam upgrade, not sure of exact lift and duration.

Ha ha.. haha ha...

No, swapping two exhaust cams won't give you anywhere near "10 hp through the whole power band". Also, the NISMO cams are not at all the same as two exhaust cams.

Also, the 240/248 cams came in all 240s from 91-93, not just 91.

Back when I liked KA's I had my buddy look up specs on what he could grind me a set for a ka-t that I was going to build. He works a shop in Dundas MN and grinds cams. He said they could grind a set to any spec. Here are the specs he gave me. That price includes a complete micro polish and lobe accuracy to the .001 he makes the cams perfect for me. I tryed to take them from exel so The specs are all cluster ****ed

Profile, Seat duration, .050 duration, gross liftn2 [email protected]" 220 0.39n5 [email protected]" 225.2 0.415n6 [email protected]" 228.6 0.4255r [email protected]" 249.9 0.482r [email protected]" 267.9 0.5071r [email protected]" 271.9 0.51N2 and n5 are stock shim over bucket liftersn6-1r are for race under bucket lifters.

I gave up on ka's and moved to a rb26. He cant make me cams for the 26 because they do not stock the billits and they are inposible to find. What a shame. He is going to staighten and polish the set that I'm gettin for my rb.

What are nissan stock cams rated in? I remember hearing from someone around here that I trust that they have some funky rating system that's different from normal advertised duration.

Oh, and could you tell me who does those grinds?

Or, do you happen to HAVE any of those grinds now that I think about it?

No I dont have any Ka grinds. I cant rember the exact name of the place. My buddy is the olney guy that grinds for this place. I will try to contact him and ask him the name of the place. Like I said I gave up on making reliable hp out of Ka's. So I do not have any of these cams. By the way he talks about the accuracy of other companys that make cams it is no wonder he makes more hp out of the grinds he makes. Cams get bent in shipping no matter how you pack them. I have seen him grind some test cams for nismo spec-v's and make good power over the other companys cams.He knows what he is doing. Thats all he does is grind cams. He puts in close to 60hours a week and is hard to get a hold of off of work. I will get back to you as soon as He answars his cell.

awesome, thanks. I know that the current aftermarket cams for the DOHC are severely lacking. It would be really great if he can make better ones, and it sounds like he probably can.

Integral Cams 1-507-645-9308. He took for ever to get back to me. But He said he can make cams to any profile you want. If you want percishion and power this is who I would have make your cams.
