I have a KA24E with 170k miles and im the only owner since 1990. I would like to sell the engine - What is a reasonable price. Hate to just leave it in the garage and collect spider webs.

Buy engine get manual 5 speed transmission free - is that a good deal ?

How much is a used transmission cost ??

thanks for any suggestions

In all likelihood, he was being closer serious than to sarcastic. An engine and transmission with 160,000 miles on it has an amount of wear on it, that, on average, will be pretty worn. Things like leakdown tests, compression tests, etc. can help show the strengths of the engine, but you have an engine that few people want: people who have a 89 or 90 240 in general will go for a KA24DE if their E dies (I was a rare exception to this rule ;-)), and the SR20 is also a popular option. So, basically, you have an unpopular, high-mileage engine that no one wants. I.E, put it on eBay, and see what happens. :-) Good luck!

I agree. I picked up a spare KA-E about 3 months ago just incase my current engine decides to quit on me. I got the engine, ecu, MAF and misc parts for 100 bucks. Engine has around 135K miles too, really clean.

When I do find them, they are worth about 150-200 bucks with a transmission and other parts. That is if it works.

I know it hardly sounds fair. I spent over 4 grand rebuilding my SOHC when I could of just put in another high mileage engine.

That was my initial plan, to rebuild the spare sohc i bought for turbo use. But now my plans changed and it sits in my garage as a spare back up motor.

Ive also picked up a 93 DOHC KA, transmission and ecu before for 300 bucks. Then I sold the motor for 200 and ecu and maf for 100. I kept the transmission, and I basically got back what I first spent on it. Then I got a free DOHC KA from my friends SR swap and I sold that to my friend who blew up his SOHC for 250 (install included).

It all come down to how bad someone wants the motor and how much theyre willing to pay for it. It took me a while to get rid of those 2 DOHC KA motors.
