k24e short?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

So for some reason it seems that the battery wont hold the charge, it hold enough charge to almost turn the car over, but it seems that it wont hold enough. So I'm thinking alt. is bad. I have a spare ka24de one, will it work just as well? Is there an alternative to changing the alt... I mean could it be something else I overlooked? If so then wut??

Also the engine has what seems to be a broken valve seal.. are those really a biat*h to change?.. I was thinking about doing the e->de head conversion anyway, so I think it wouldn't be an issue after that... but I wanna make sure the head swap works first, so hopefully glacier will hook it up nicely.

Last but not least, the engine is nasty lookin' on the outside, cuz of an old oil leak.. can I just power wash it? or does any recommend something different.. it's really nasty.. so it would be nice to get it squeaky clean again :-D Thanks to all.
