Hi, i just registered but have been visiting the forum for quite a while.

now to the problem, because of BAD timing that was put on the engine after being rebuilt(just put all new gaskets and what not), well..we didn't get the timing before we disassembled the engine and put the timing the bad way back in, and the valves got messed up(piston damaged the valves), so i'd like to know if anybody has some pics of the whole front end of the engine with the crank and the cams timing chain when its on the right timing(stock timing).

P.S i was getting backfires before i tried re-adjusting the cams and damaging the valves. maybe that was the crank chain that wasn't adjusted right.

need some pics or info on where the exact stock crank/cam timing chains are supposed to be.

it is a stock '93 240sx.

EDIT: err...just saw the sticky up of this post....sorry.

There should be 6 dots on the crank gear, first is 5 ATDC, 2nd is ***TDC***, 3rd is 5 BTDC, 4th is 10 BTDC and so on.

You want to line it up with the 2nd dot. You will also notice that when you take the gear off, the dug out part of the crank should point straight up from what I remember.

nooo! i meant a pic of the crank timing chain, with the front cover off!, i know that part about the dots on the crank pulley can be done with a timing light.

Ohh, hmm....well I would imagine that the little scoped out part would be pointing straight up, but w/o the pulley you are shooting in the dark with that.

I would put the front cover back on sorta and then the crank gear, set in time using 27mm socket wrench, and then take it all back off again.
