K1 makes a great rod, and the price for them is really good as well.

What's wrong with your stock rods? If nothing is wrong with them, use the money elsewhere.

perhaps because that advice coming from someone who went considerably past 400 on stock rods.... you'd be throwing away very good parts, that r well up to the task?

The stock connecting rods in the CA18 can handle a lot more than 400hp, provided they are in good shape. If I remember correctly, Garage Paddy made something like 700whp on stock rods in their silvia. Dee makes upwards of 500whp on some of his engines (heck, its probably something like 30 of them. Guy has a bit of a CA18 habit) on stock rods, no problem.

If you want to upgrade anything on the rods, just get ARP bolts for them. Its a good investment, as they won't stretch at high-rpm like the stock rod bolts will. Spend the rest of your money on getting a good tune.

E: please note, CA18 stock rods are already forged.

im not worried about the money for a tune . the shop im helping has dyno and will get a good tune . i understand people have mad good power with stock rods. I just would like to build it right from the bottom up. i do plan on doing a lot of drift events and open track days. so thats why i wanted to know about the rods

K1 is a well know brand with a good price. Not many CA users have tried them, but I would assume that they would work fine. As others have said, it's not need for that power level though either.

As the guys posted, why would you discard parts that are not broken? Maybe to say you have this name brand part in your car? Or the thought that it would make your build more cool? If you're not going to exceed 600hp, the stock rods will hold you down just fine. Again, it's your preference and feel free to do what you want. But purchasing aftermarket rods, especially on a budget build (not saying that about anyone) is a waste of coins in my skilled opinion. Spend the money working the head. That's your bread and butter ;) .

Yeah, Dee (boost boy), knows what he's talking about. As far as getting more out of the head, the only thing I've seen people do is port it. I'm sure that other people who know more might have some other ideas.

The reason I don't try to run crazy boost is that you need new tuning, which is probably the most important thing you can do for an engine, and I can't afford that right now...
