I am not a very knowledgeable person when it comes to differents products and parts..... however i love my car and i am always looking for ways to improve it either aestheatically or in performance.. i just started. i can't find the whole cold air intake for the I35 from K & N.. I went to the dealer and asked, (they have the Stillen air intakes) and they said that they don't have intake systems for that model so i guess i ll just have to settle for the having a K & N filter.. however i wonder if it is worth it... .50 bucks for a FILTER is a lot.. i was wondering if anybody has any comments at all? is it worth it? or should i just stick to the STP filters... i know that K & N last for 10 appoximately but is there any noticeable difference in milage or performance ... even if is minuscule .... cause if there is ..i ll buy it.... even if is barely noticeable...

Stay away from K&N filters. OEM Nissan air filters are best for these cars. The K&N filters have some kind of oil on them that can mess up sensors.

I have been running K and N's for over 10 years, standard replacement filter as well as their FPK kits, never had an issue, and a million mile warranty woo hoo

K&N make a good filter, but I always use an AEM Dryflow. More volume flows through an AEM, and it doesn't use oil, so no worries about harming your MAF. It's a win/win.

If you take them time to make sure they are properly oiled then they are the best air filters money can buy.

also a K&N filter user. No problems with MAF, but AEM dry flow is superior i think.

Check out your throttle body and see if clean

If so maybe stay with what you have

I second beancooker's opinion.

The K&N filters have to be oiled. That oil is nasty when starts to evaporate and get all over your MAF and throttle body.

I'm still wondering what I'm going to find in the intake manifold from that K&N oil I had running for 50k.

I like the AEM Dry flow. I've had it on for about 10k and it doesn't look disgusting like the K&N style filter I had on there.

You can tap it a little and most of the large debris falls off.

No amount of hot water, detergent or anything else would ever completely clean the K&N gunk off.

Have K&N's in all of my cars. Have been using them for years. Follow the instructions and don't over oil them.

I used to be a big K&N fan for like 12 years, but not anymore.

Not because it doesn't provide more air flow -- which it does -- but, even after fastidiously following the instructions for cleaning it, drying it, and re-oiling it (BTW, if you do it right, you will NOT get oil on the MAF), the performance will NEVER be the same as when you first bought it.

That is because there will always be particulates suspended in the filter element that cannot be washed out.

I have been using high-output, Purolator air filters. Every bit as good as K&N, half the price, but "not permanent."

Then again, the performance of a new K&N is "not permanent" either.

Anyone want to buy mine? Recently cleaned and oiled.

I was wondering the same about my car. Is it difficult to install a cold air intake with a KN filter? I haven't done too much on my car myself exept change the interior lights ;-). Do I need to have it proffesionally installed? I know they usually ask for 75-100 dollars for installation and I found the part for 90 on ebay. It seems too high when it cost more to install then buy the part.

I would call Cattman and see if you can get one of the Place Racing CAIs.

From my understanding, the ones on Ebay are not true CAIs, they suck warm air from the engine bay.

The install is not that hard, but does require a couple of hours and cutting into your wheel well.

There should be an install tutorial in the FAQs.

if you dont want to pay for original k&n, ebay has some knock offs for 1/3 the cost and basically the same design. wire mesh with cotton gause inside....I have a few of the knock offs so I can swap instantly instead of waiting for one to dry out after washing it.

K/N response to MAF failures...

http://www.knfilters.com/faq.htm#27

107 failures tested - 65 werent even failed!

Not 1 was found to have failed due to the intake.

If you have ever owned a Harley you know very well that every dealer will inform you that the slightest mod "voids the warranty"!

The FTC says otherwise.

Dont fear K/N. They are the only company I know of that actually offers customer support and LEGAL help if a dealer tries to claim you damaged the car.

Adios
