Why K&N when OEM filters for air work best and are inexpensive from Joe?

Q45tech mentioned in the Q45 forum that T-3 had seen 2 or 3 Y34 with failing pumps in the last week.

Over the years that we have all owned Infiniti vehicles, our general consensus on K&N oiled filters is that they are more trouble than they are worth.

1. You do not really get any perceptible gains in horse-power that makes any difference to our already high horsepower ratings!

2. The oil in the filter feeds micro-drops of oil into the air-stream. This eventually coats the MAF and creates serious drivability problems.

Best to stick with OEM and replace often!

Caug-I got my K&N Filter from http://www.autoanything.com - they will match any price you can find online. Also, I paid $45.33 for the filter with free shipping. As for the fuel filter, I haven't looked into to that yet.

I hate K&N filters. They suck. I'm still wondering why I have one on my car (came that way from the previous dumb A$$).

If you have an aftermarket intake, I would go with an AEM Dryflow. It's a synthetic fiber that doesn't need oil OR dirt to be efficient.

IIRC, the Nissans and Infinitis since 2000 haven't had separate fuel filters. Only the screen that is integrated into the fuel pump (not replaceable).

BTW, I've used 3 cotton gauze, oiled filters (K&N style) and have hated them all. My wife's Celica has the AEM and mine should too!

Please quit it with the CAPS. It comes across as you yelling or being retarded. Neither fair well here.

Dyno runs can vary by 5 or so HP from run to run. I'm not sure how much you understand about oiled cotton gauze filters, but their design is fundamentally flawed.

They allow garbage and atomized oil to pass through them and get on your MAF, throttle plate, and intake manifold which causes all sorts of wonderful issues down the line.

You've got to remember. I've tried the K&N, the paper, AND the synthetic. I would NEVER go back to K&N. I don't doubt that the K&N flows better than the paper. That's because it doesn't filter as well!
