The better question is, "Why bother?"

A friend of mine works for a large parts supplieru can get them from summitracing.com for $44.00 plus nominal shipping.I already had a flange though, when i installed it in 1997 i think it was for a supra (k&n flange)

Without a doubt the absolutely worst mod on a Q45 exposed to any Summer heat..........drives the MAF crazy at hot idle........without extensive insulation------- cold air covering to direct outside air in onto filter..

The underhood at idle gets > 160F.

The ecu has a upper limit for calculating air temperature [you are already exposed to summer protective software if the ecu coolant temp reading exceeds 194.9999999999999999999999F........when the MAF reads an air density of less than 80% of what it expects as normal [120F ambient] at idle..........it causes ecu to throw up and go into double protection.

As the 100F ambient [110F traffic] passes thru the ac condenser it gains 20F and another 20F [minimum] thru the radiator.........usually closer to 160F.

Takes multiple minutes at speed to drop under hood injested air temp.

As I always point out owners cause the most destruction of Q with their ideas on how to improve the years of work the engineers spent to get it close to right.

Now in winter a K&N cone doesn't cause too many problems other than ring wear and loss of compression but that takes 200,000+ miles of use.

Because this is a board that offers valuable information to its members, and has always long before you joined.

It is a tradition not to be discarded for the cultivation of fashionable ignorance.

Thank god it never gets over 80 where I live and there's always a cool Pacific breeze.

That said, it's nearly a year since I did the OEM filter('s). Time to call Joe.
