I installed a K&N CAI in my 2012 Nissan Altima coupe 2.5s. I like the sound and the performance I get get out of it. But ive noticed it sucks up my gas like crazy, even when going the speed limit.
I dont have any other performance mods on my car, this was just a little experiment I wanted to do. To see if I keep dropping mods. But after this, I dont think I will be doing anything serious to my coupe, engine wise.
I dont know if I should keep it or just put the stock one back on ? :frown:

This is the CAI I have - http://www.raceinspired.com/watermark.a ... ize=medium

EDIT: After reading these replies, I might just end up keeping it.

I even tried both of those. It doesn't do much to be honest. But every car is different. But I will say I noticed a slight increase in gas with my intake. Very slight.

I don't even have the k&n typhoon. Just the regular k&n drop in filter and yeah I average less mpg than I did stock.

I've got an injen sri and custom exhaust and i'm averaging 31-32 highway doing 70 on cruise w/ a 3.5 (27 mpg stock). In my opinion, the sound is worth the extra fuel, and if you're heavy on the gas, which it sounds like you are because the intake doesnt kick in till ~3k rpm, you're fuel consumption could be down just to a heavy foot/quicker acceleration.

Hmm I dont think its any of those. I dont get any kind or error message. Or any problems with my engine or anything different with my coupe. But I will try it tonight.

I checked the CAI last night when I got home from work with a friend. And the CAI is installed properly and its on there tight. We also did a few test runs to hear the engine and everything seemed fine.

Trust me I Love the sound the intake makes. And I have also not noticed any kind of increase in my gas.

Yea I would get pretty good gas mileage on my stock part. But after installing the K&N CAI, my gas rapidly dropped. But what my friend told me id that since I got a new mod in my car, im just going to run it hard just to hear the noise. And its kinda true. So that could be the issue with my gas problem.

Thanks for all you guys inputs. Really appreciate it. I am still new to all this. So I apologize in advance for any dumb question. I will keep my CAI for now and just drive it normally without running it and see how that goes for me. If all comes to worse I will just sell it lol.

Relearn/reset just for the computer to adjust to the new air fuel ratio.

Computer will do it by itself. Just like my maxima. The computer/ecu will adjust to run as close oem as possible. So if you plan on racing or something just disconnect the battery to reset. Smart a** cars lol..

isn't the point of an intake is to pull in more air so that you can use more fuel therefore giving you more power.....

With my Typhoon, I find that my MPGs went up. I use cruise control religiously, and I coast as much as possible. In traffic, do whatever you can to avoid coming to a complete stop.
