Just a note regarding the K&N air filter usage. K&N does make a great air filter, but make sure when you reoil the filter to not oversaturate the filter.First, lets review the type of (MAF) regarding the issue. The mass airflow sensor measures the intake air flow rate by measuring a part of the entire intake air flow.It consist of a hot film as COMPARED to a hot wire on earlier assemblies that is supplied with electric current from the ECM.The temperature of the hot film is controlled by the ECM.The heat generated by the hot film is reduced as the intake air flows around it.Therefore, the ECM must supply more electric current to maintain the temperature of the hot film as airflow increases. The ECM detecs the airflow by means of this current change.

The conclusion is if the MAF sensor is not of the hot wire type, it will not have the self cleaning, and if it gets saturated with oil, you will get a driveabilty problem that is very difficult to diagnois. By no means i'm not suggesting to not use that type of filter, just follow K&N's reoil procedure and they will work fine. Might save you a trip to a service department, and keep that few extra bucks in your pocket.

Stay stock and change often for best filtration. Oiled filters are for lawnmowers and 2 stroke dirt bikes. Not in any way is any oil film, no matter how fine, in the intake path beneficial to your engine.

of course oil film not directly beneficial to an engine, but if the correct amount is applied, it makes the fibres of the filter "stickier". Too much oil, however, can be sucked in to gum up high temp components.
