I had a K&N cleanable/reusable filter for my Dodge Ram, and it was pretty great in the aspect that in the two years I had the truck, I never had to buy a replacement filter. Just pull out the K&N twice a year (more than necessary, but with 6 months of winter, and 6 months of dusty "summer" here, I did anyway), spray the included cleaning spray, hose it down, spray on the oil, put it back in the truck.
Right now, I just have the stock Nissan filter in my Rogue and have a spare I bought a while ago which I'll use when I have to replace the filter next. But I think I may go back to a K&N just due to the convenience of being able to clean and reuse it.
