I'm considering the new K&N air filter, what the manufacture says is interesting, should I invest in it? It's aprox. double the price BUT you wash and reuse it, eventually cheaper on the long run, enviromentally friendly and a reduced overall MPG...hmmmm what are your opinions???

I have had the K&N increase the gas milage on some of my cars and do nothing for others.

Be sure if you buy it go ahead and purchase the cleaner kit which consists of a spray can of solvent and and can of oil to saturate it after cleaning. This kit usually costs around $10.

I've given serious thought to purchasing one for my V... I like the 'reusable' factor.

I don't have one in the Versa, but I've got one in my G20, with seemingly good results. The "reusability" factor was what hooked me, too. I paid around $45 for the K&N about 5 years ago (originally had it in a Sentra) so in that time I would have bought about 5 conventional air filters at $8-10 each, so it's pretty much paid itself off. Plus, I average 26 mpg in town with my G, which is well above its EPA rating from when it was new.

I have actually purchased and installed one for my "1.8 S" and I love it. About 2 mpg difference in the city and 3mpg difference on the highway. No real change with the AC Blasting, BUT I love the increase without the AC. It really takes somebody who owns the car to test the difference, but when you do it, you'll notice just enough to make you smile.

I used one on my Taurus and it did much more, it's just that we have one of the smallest engines on the market, but the VVT that Nissan has engineered really takes well to extra O2!

I have one in my SL with the CVT and I noticed about 1 mpg better, and a VERY small difference in the overall pep of the car (no snapping your neck back with the CVT). I would recommend it if you plan to keep the car a few years.

I've ran one on any car I didn't mod heavily. It will pay for itself after 40-50k miles (just based on replacing with OEM filter), much less if you get a little better mpg.

Haven't gotten one yet on my V, because the original one is still in.
