Don't ask me how, but I came across a post on a Titan site that reported an issue with a K&N air filter (new out of the box, and not re-oiled) that caused a failure of the vehicle's Mass Air Flow sensor.

The car was still under warranty, but when the dealership saw the K&N filter, they said since the aftermarket part led to the OEM part failure, they would not cover the MAF sensor replacement under warranty.

I have had the K&N in my Murano for last couple of week with no problems, but it is still early. I have also had a K&N in my Honda Prelude and Infiniti G35 with no problems for years.

Anyone have any experience with this with regards to the Murano?

I have used the K&N Filter in the following Nissan/Infiniti vehicles:

'99 Nissan Altima'01 Nissan Frontier 3.3sc'03 Nissan Murano'04 Infiniti QX56'05 Infiniti G35x'09 Nissan Murano'08 Nissan Armada'08 Nissan Altima 3.5

I NEVER had a single problem with the K&N filter in any of these vehicles. To add to the list, my brother has a K&N in his '05 Titan.

Thanks for the update. I actually called the dealership and asked the guys in the service department, and he said that he had one in his Titan as well. I have had K&Ns in all my vehicles as well, and they have always worked great. So I guess I will keep it!

I had this happen to my 2000 maxima and was told that the oil contaminates the MAS and causes it to fail. I changed back to paper filters and bought a new MAS. That being said, the MAS on my 06 murano isnt as close in proximity to the filter so I have a k+n filter on it with no prob at all. Dont over oil though.

yesterday I was in the service department of my local Nissan to pick up a windshield sun blocker and I noticed that they actually sold K&N filters there.

I also looked on K&N's site, and they specifically address the MAF issue. http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massairfindings.htm

Wow, great catch. I've heard of this issue for a few years now.I've used K&N filters since 98 and have never had an issue.Although after hearing about the MAF failures, I've been careful about re-oiling after cleaning.

The typical cause of this is over oiling the filter.

Even then, the MAF usually doesn't fail...it just needs a cleaning.
