It shouldn't, especially if your alternator is performing the way it should. Your issues are in the chasis wiring. You've knocked out a fusible link and it's killing the power between the alternator and battery.nab911 wrote:Well the battery is relativly new but i hooked jumper cables up to it backwards a while ago so it could be messed up. I may just go pick up another and pray. Could a bad battery be causing a problem like this? I always thought that if your alternator was good you could just unhook the battery and it would still run....
Where's your batter mounted? If your batter is mounted in the front, it's right there on your positive harness. It will be the plugs that plug into the positive battery connector. Those are fusible links.......nab911 wrote:Ok... so this fuse... where is it? On the transmission harness between the alt and battery?
They are not fuses! They are fusible links. The wires that you see leading up to the connectors are like fuses. When they burn out, you can't tell unless you either probe them with a continuity tester or splice into link to see if either got smoked.nab911 wrote:Oh those little black and orange boxes... ill open em up and take a look . Are they fuses and if not do i just pick up some new ones from the AZ? Yeah the bat is up front.
You can open them up if you want, but there isn't really much to open up. If you can, just go get some from a junkyard as I'm pretty sure that's your issue. Fusible links are tricky and not too many do-it-yourselfers immediately attack that area when they come across an issue similar to yours.nab911 wrote:Lol Dee we got this. Can i just open the boxes up and look at the wires or do i need to turn the key to the on position, and use a lighted line tester?
I like helping with the more complicated issues and this one definitely qualifies. I hope you get this sorted out, but if not, rattle my cage and I'll get a CA powered 240 so I can walk you through via phone call.nab911 wrote:Excellent dee! Well i have 2 extra transmission harness already so ill see what i can find out... your a life saver!
