i am planning on buying a stage 2 Fmax kit with a few extra parts such as a JWT ECU programmed for the kit for my 96 KA. The stage two kit comes with an MSD boost timing module which can retard the ignition timing with boost as well as increasing the power of the spark. My question is would retarding the ignition timing over what the JWT ECU sets it as help the power/reliability of my car in any way??

retarding timing takes away power but lets you run more boost which makes more power. the jwt has its own timing maps so the msd is of no use. i didnt know that it increases spark, it could be benifical in that aspect

yeah i was thinking if i could retard the timing a little more than the ECU sets for i could run more boost more safely ... the more powerful spark would be a nice plus though too :D

JWT ECU's are allready pretty retarded...hahaha im so funny...but seriously the comparison between JWT and hacked maf for low PSI was like 10-15hp difference because JWT retards the timing plenty. They like to stay on the safe side, so maybe retarding it more is a bad idea.

dareo is right. the jwt doesnt retard to a certain point. it has a timing map that will keep retarding the timing. the thing amount the jwt compared to the hacked maf tho was that its powerband was alot smoother and wasnt as lean, this was from ::orion::'s dyno

the BTM unit doesn't amplify spark, if you want that you have to opt up for an msd ignition box, and you can get btm on some of those. I think its the 6al that is popular for that feature? anyway the BTM unit itself works with your stock ignition, and doesn't amplify the spark. You should just stick with a simple upgraded box and coil if you are running high boost, otherwise stock ignition would probably be sufficient. (with a jwt ecu)
