I'm becomeing more and more convinced that it is going to be a while before good SOHC tuning is a reality. So, I am exploring my options.

One option is the JWT tune. I've heard they are very conservative with timing so I'm thinking of ordering just a fuel tune and letting my BTM handel timing.

My question is for those who own one. How do you like them? How are your AF ratios and does the car behave like stock? Do you get that rich spot when you punch it? Would you recommend it?

Jim Wolf ECU + SAFC2 = bangin'

The SAFC2 lets you fine tune the Jim Wolf. True, it is a conservated map but even by it self its a good ECU.

Scott does not do SOHC tunes Im in the same boat Edub1. I plan on using a BTM and a SAFC. Ima trailer it to a dyno and have them tune the SAFC. From what I hear they can put a decent tune on it with minimal runs. Im only looking for <250HP though.

not all JWT tunes are conservative...another internet myth.

let JWT handle the timing, instead of your BTM...believe me, they provide plenty of ignition advance to make good power.

He is now up to $600. I think I'll try grafting the Calum DE ECU or doing the GM swap first.

I am using a JWT ECU and from my experience with it, it is a conservative tune. Make sure you use something to lean the fuel curve, his tune does run rich (11.5 at idle). Overall I am pleased. I have heard alot about Enthrapy. From what I hear it is a much more aggressive tune. I may give it a try.

If you are idling with an afr of 11.5 then there is something wrong. That goes far beyond a "conservative tune".

Yep my guess vacuum leak. I bought a used JWT ECU 72lbs for around 400 bucks with ECU. At idle afr around 17 which is not bad. I am hoping to get mine in the shop to finish a downpipe so that I can get it dynoed. Sucks I upgraded the turbo and now I am not able to drive my car because I need the downpipe rewelded.

Edub1 I have a jwt ecu on my fwd 200sx with a bluebird det, its the 3bar set up my car has msd 50lb inj, 255 walboro fuel pump, ford mustang cobra mass air meter, jwt popcharger, msd 6a. Forgive me if I forgot some upgrade to my fuel system or ignition system. I would definately use a jwt tuned ecu again I ran this set up with the stock t25 turbo for a little while and it ran beautifally no hiccup or flat spots etc. I then upgraded to a disco potato didn't touch anything with the fuel sys. or igniton sys. the car ran perfect no problems what so ever, I then turned the boost up to 22lbs the car ran perfect no problems. I guess what I'm trying to say is the jwt ecu may be a "conservative" tune but it is very forgiving and allows room for upgrade. Oh I also added the jwt s3 cams the car still ran great slight lope but no problems. Btw it also passed smog test with all the upgrades installed so to me the jwt tune is great, my opinion though.

I do own an 89 pig and a 92 chuki I plan a sr20 for the 89 and a ka-t for the 92 and plan on running both with a jwt tune.

Quick questions about JWT ECU for a KA24DET

Can I run a JWT tuned for stock MAF, 370cc injectors and T3/t4 turbo at 8psi NA without any harm?Do I need to re tune with a SAFC while I am in NA mode?My turbo downpipe is being redone. I just done want to change ECU and injectors while this is done.

As long as your injectors and everything match what the ECU is set for, you should be all set. It might not run the best in N/A form (too rich) but its not going to hurt anything. You shouldn't need to re-tune with SAFC while in N/A mode unless you change your injectors.

To Hell with it. I'm going to move my MAF around and give ECCS tuning one more try and then I'm going mega squirt if it still sucks. I hear the speed density is so much better for a turbo anyway.
