Guys,

I've been driving the car with the new motor in it for about six months at this point. I love everything about it, except for the 112mph speed cut. After I get my new wheels and brakes, I'm going to assemble everything needed to upgrade the turbo, and hit my mark of ~350rwhp. I'm going with the JWT ECU for a few reasons, the biggest one being safety. Call me naive, but I'm a lot more comfortable with the ECU actually knowing what is going on... than having some box which plugs into the ECU, that tricks it into believe that the engine is still stock, even though you've got upgraded parts. It just seems like an unnecessary point of possible failure to me, but that's not the point of this point.

I'm curious if any of you guys have gotten your ECUs reprogrammed for near stock setups? The only mod I'm going to get in the near future is an MBC to dial the boost up to somewhere between 10-12psi.

Right now the car is running a bit rich. I'm okay with that, it keeps the pistons cool. =) I figure the retune will take care of the rich condition. I know that it will also remove the speed cut. I guess the only other concern I have is, will I notice enough of a power gain to justify the ~$600 it's going to cost to have it done?

A little off topic but how do you like your Megan catback? I can get one for $350 or an N1 for $400 and was having trouble deciding. Thanks.

You should get it reprogramed for injectors and MAF, so wait for the components so you don't have to pay to do it twice. I also wouldn't recomend JWT, check out Secret Services in Tampa, they have a better product IMHO. After seeing a JWT car on a dyno vs a SS car I can say that SS impressed me a LOT more (and it got better MPG due to the fact that JWT tunes everything way to rich).

It's a great product. I highly recommend it.

In all reality, I'm not going to have all of the parts for a turbo ugprade for a good 2-3 years. I'd like to take my car to the track before then though. I know that JWT tunes their programs kind of rich. I like that. If I wanted ultimate dyno bragging rights, or tip-top quarter mile performance, then I'd want my car tuned to the ragged edge. For how I want to drive, I don't mind the extra little bit of fuel keeping the pistons cool and the EGTs down. Full throttle on a race track for an hour at a time is sort of a different ball game, you know?

Thanks for the concern, and the info about JWT. I know that they have a bad rep on the internet, and among those wanting to squeeze every last ounce of performance out of their applications. There is a method to their madness though. They don't want customers with blown up cars. I'm sure that if you were to tell them, "Hey, you guys tune your ECUs too rich. I don't mind mine being a little bit lean. Will you tune it closer to 11:1 for me?" They'd be happy to oblige... lord knows they have the experience to make any reasonable request a reality.

Another reason I've put so much thought into JWT is because they are somewhat local, so I can drive my car down there. That allows for more precise tuning, than an ECU they'd send across the country to some guy who tells them, "I have mods X, Y, and Z." You know?

Well I just drive my car to much to afford a JWT ECU that runs rich and fouls plugs. I drive my SR about 120 miles round trip every day to work. I beat on it every weekend, and it hasn't let me down once. Plus I only paid like $375 for my tune job.

If JWT is right there go for it, have them dyno tune your car though. That's the only real way to have a 'good' ECU IMHO. But either way your still better off going with that than you are an AFC.

Do you know how much it costs to have ECU reprogrammed at SS I'm moving to Orlando in summer time and will definately check out SS in Tampa.

a friend of mine runs a JWT ecu and his air/fuel on the wideband is friggin perfect basically across the board when under boost. right around 11.5:1 all the way across the graph. i believe they make a good product, but their turnaround sucks ***.

Didn't you Email me a while back about moving down here? I tried to respond to it 3 times but it kept getting returned to me for some reason.

I think they charge like $375 to put the chip in, and another 375 to do the actual dyno tunning. I could be wrong on both prices though. There is also a guy here in Orlando who can burn you a chip for about $300 but he dosn't do any tunning (although SS can take care of that for you at a later date if you want).

Bah! My dyno WB A/F was PERFECT with JWT ECU. You guys are blowing it WAY out of proportion. I do not foul plugs, or get bad gas mileage, on 300+ RWHP.

I'm sure SS can do a great job, probably even better than JWT, but they do have the actual car there for tuning, not just an ECU.
