Please forgive me if this has been visited before. I'm considering getting one for my wife's 05 sedan, but I believe that I read somewhere that they don't filter as well as a paper filter or K&N. Is this true?? I've heard that a K&N does a better job than a paper filter. I want the extra HP & MPG, but don't want to damage the engine. I'm new to the forum (GREAT FORUM BTW ), but have owned a 91 240sx se w/super hicus, 2001 pathfinder 4x4, 2003 pathfinder 4x4Thanks!!!

Looks great!! I hope to have one soon. Any idea whether or not it's better or worse in the filtration department??

No idea as for improved filtration but it sure has increased throttle response and hp. almost sounds like a bov when shifting at medium throttle. And another pic of the ride...

Nothing beats oem paper filtration if changed frequently [every year].Cone filters [underhood] receive hotter air which has a lower density thus reduces power............always use a ColdAirIntake either the oem or something superior [unlikely you can find something].

I would never recommend [in a prebuy inspection] a used car that showed signs of a modified air filter in its past, as generally these systems allow more dirt into the engine -----wearing rings and components faster.

Do lots of research before wasting your money on a louder sound and ignore the marketing hype designed to confuse you.

A 3.5 [215 cubic inch] engine can consume less than 350 cfm of air under redline conditions.

Take oem filter and iron flat and do the same with ANY cone filter........you will see the oem is gigantic compared to the cone element. The cotton in the cone must be thinner to compensate for its smaller square foot area.

Don't be fooled by their glitzy tests study the science.

So, based on your reply, I would be foolish to buy the JWT Pop Charger or anything other than what is recommended and approved by Nissan due to the fact that these other filtration systems will cause harm to my engines. OK, thanks for the info! I suppose 280 HP is really enough for my G35 anyway.

If you want more HP, then get an aftermarket intake system. Stock intakes have multiple bends and silencers to quiet the incoming air charge. This robs performance, but not everybody wants to hear intake noise (which is why they design it like that).

The reason paper filters are oem, is because they are the most durable for the price. In a mass produced car, saving $50 on each one adds up...I've seen the tests with different filters, and if you don't clean the aftermarket ones, there will be a decrease in performance, just like paper one's-only you can re-use cloth type filters.

As for the dirt in the engine comment...I respectfully disagree; not only is this extra dirt very negligible, compared to paper, but the oil system will clean any extra containments. The engine would fail from another cause first anyway (200,000+ miles)!

Finally, the extra heat comment...when moving, air comes from outside the engine compartment-look at the design of the Popcharger. It's the same placement as the oem filter-even using the stock ram-air cone! Unless you're waiting in the staging lanes, it's going to be fine.

It was night and day after I installed my JWT popcharger/Z-tube/motordyne spacer.

joe603,Thanks for the comments! I'm still on the fence as far as adding the pop charger.....I've got a K&N in my cobra, g20 (daughters), and pathfinder. Paper filter in the G35. I always turn them once and then clean them. I also use only mobil 1 syn in all my cars. They all have numerous coats of ZAINO as well. I enjoy doing all of the maintenance myself. Anyway, I appreciate the comments and welcome more!

I love my JWT popcharger, Z tube and Plenum spacer. Definately added performance and the sound is excellent. Combine that with the coupe mid pipe on the sedan and its great.

Thanks RED_DET, I'm pretty much sold on the performance of the Pop Charger, just need to do some more research on the filtration. I would probably jump on it if it were from K&N since I have been running those in my cars forever now, but just don't know enough about this brand yet.

Hey WESIDE,

This is the Stillen high flow airbox and a seperate chome z-tube right? You said it whas the JWT setup.

The stillen kit comes with the plastic z-tube right? Does it also come with a K&N Filter?

I live in South Texas and it gets damn hot here. You have any problems with heat soak on that chromed z-tube?

Yes it is the stillen pop charger with a z-tube from everything g-35. I believe that the kit from stillen comes with the k&n filter with the box and the plastic z-tube. And I haveant had any problems with it since installed. The z-tube does get a little warm but we have also had a heat wave here in southern cali and I have had no problems.... Just a whole lot of grins
