So I finally got into some money and im wanting to get a pop charger. Simply because I want a little more power and fuel econ, but I have some questions. First off does it come with a heat shield? I know the filter has to be oiled, can I just use K&N filter oil on it? And lastly for those of you who have one, did you notice any problems with the maf sensor after install? Thanks all im going to hopefully order this week.

Yeah washable filters are washable filters, you can use any filter oil, I happen to use K&N cleaner and oil on mine with no problems. No problems with MAF sensor either, but i clean it every few years just for peace of mind.

Dont know about a heatshield though. Does K&N possibly make a heatshield / intake system for the VQ?

I'm getting a B&N filter with built in velocity stack(identical to jwt filter) and a spectre velocity stack #9603 which should be pretty much the same as a pop charger. Filter cost with shipping is only $40 and stack is only 15$. grand total of $55 instead of $116 for JWT

The JWT intake isnt just a cone filter....behind that filter is a machined piece of aluminum that creates the venturi that produces both that signature sound and power gains.

the pop charger's aluminum piece is essentially a velocity stack

Wisehunter1 did you end up getting it set up? I'm interested in it now... Less than 100$ for parts sounds awesome.

Yea there's definately an increase in response with the new exhaust in conjunction with the pop charger. I started a thread asking about what to do with the stock vacuum tubing and with no responses, I decided to tap it into the coupler between the velocity stack and the MAF adapter and sealed it with some silicone. This actually made everything feel alot more responsive than before which is great but I'm still not sure what this hose does exactly.

The parts I got were:
S&B filter w/power stack $40(33+7shipping)
Spectre Velocity stack 9602 6in to 3in $13(free amazon shipping)
3in pathfinder MAF adapter from ebay $10
3 in coupler from autozone $8

So the total was around $70

There are different forums with dynos showing that these velocity stacks do indeed help smooth out the air coming in; in conjunction with the power stack built into the s&b filter, it is literally the same if not a little more effective than the JWT pop charger.
I ordered the 6in tall s&b filter so it is slightly taller than what you would get if you ordered the jwt. you could probably order the 7in filter if you wanted since there is alot of room where the air box was.
This is the specs for the filter:

Universal Filter (Cleanable, 8-ply Cotton, Red Oil): Flange ID 6, Top OD 5.25, Element Height 6, Top Style: Chrome Rim w/ Power Stack
Item #: R0917
UPC: 841372026881

you can also get it in blue oil to look more like a jwt.

I'll try and post some pics this week.
It sounds mean!

Never heard of an "S&N" filter. Heard of K&N...

Here is a pic of my Jimbo Wolf setup with stock intake removed. Replaced with Spectre parts. Did a writeup with part no's somewhere on this forum a while back. Rep. at Spectre was simply awesome with info. The new Wolf filters are blue. This is one of the original ones.

EDIT: HOLY CRAP THAT LOOKS SICK!!!!!

EDIT #2 fund them here, love google, lol http://www.sbfilters.com/

EDIT #3: Did you also relocate you Carbon Canister? I feel like mine is WAY closer to front of the car than yours is.

Thanks Kyle!

I have a K&N FIPK open air element on my Explorer and some spectre parts for the intake. Purchased many K&N products over the years, I like their quality.

I am not sure where the carbon canister is on my Path. I removed All the stock airbox and parts, replaced it all with a flexible tube that goes down into the foglight opening. Was trying to create a cheap "ram air" setup. Do u have a pic of the carbon canister location? I thought it was in the back somewhere on my Pathfinder.

Checked out SB filter website link you provided. Looks like decent quality stuff!

I am extremely satisfied with my S&B filter. They are made to order to the size and specs of your choice and are top notch in build quality. In addition, they are very reasonably priced.
