Wich one is better for the price?? I need a computer now and NICO is not in production at the moment. Long story short, I know a girl with an EVO that really needs to be shut up, EVO this, EVO that, Im the best, Blah blah blah. Anyways, found a JWT for 40$ over the NICO price, should i do it?

I believe it has been proven on here the NICO ECU is better plus now you can get switcher with multiple programs.

However,

The EVO will probably smoke you in most "races" ECU or not. Maybe in a 80 - 120 run you may have a chance.

The EVO was built to cheap, and to go fast and it does that well

Any comparison of the two cars is uneeded.

good luck

Thanks for the heads up, and i know im in for a lot, but she is willing to run freeway. I have taken the Q to the Gov, so smooth and handeled like a dream. ( i know, stupid) Im talkin a medium-distance Eldo-hills to P-vill run. I have done it multipul times solo without a prob. Evo Top speed 157. If i can get rid of the gov i should be fine. (i hope)

Yeah, but isn't the OEM limited to 155mph? Since the NICO isn't available I don't see that you have a choice.

I believe so, yes. Read that link about the top speed stories. I talked to the owner of T3 who had a G50 with JWT ECU and Trimode TCU - he did 169 before backing off.

169!! Sweet. Thanks. Will do. Anyone else out there think i do/ do not have a chance against an EVO. This girl runs Auto-X Weekly, she does know what she is doing. Is 390 a god price for the computer?

I recently sold my JWT for about $100 and installed a NICO 8 position ECU instead. The NICO has a slight performance edge and reportedly the the JWT does not recognize the knock sensors which could be very hazardous to your engine-especially if you are prone to buy gas from lower end stations. I saw a JWT on Ebay recently for about $100. I don't think it sold.

No sweat. You'll gain miles on her over that distance.

You been to the governor already, so you must have confidence in your suspension - that's all I'd worry about. The transmission could get hot though - you might want to do another run and check its temp afterwards.

Oh, and your tires are rated for it? That's a bad speed for a blowout.

tires?... No. But brakes, yes!! Bran new. I rebuilt calipers, new pads and rotors on all 4 corners. Anyone Know anyone who is selling switcher ECU? I'll pay full price as if it was new. GO NICO!!!

OEM Knock sensor circuitry is designed to work from idle to around 4500 rpm as the mechanical noise build up clouds the resolution above that rpm.As you pass the torque peak [4,000] rpm the VE starts to decline so the chances of knock dwindle UNLESS all the ignition advance SAFETY has been removed or the gasoline chosen is really bad.

However in 4th gear acceleration is so very slow compared to 3rd due to 30% gearing change knock might build up so be alert when exceeding 135 mph with tweaked ecu by any tuner especially when ambient is above 80F.

That's the problem with chassis dyno tuned ecu the load is so small compared to on the road wind resistance, that the acceleration is twice as fast limiting knock possibility.

Many tweeked to ragged edge on dyno are useless in the real world on the highway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at high speeds. in 4th gear.

Well, my 540i BMW runs just as quickly from 40+mph as my '92 Q. In my BMW, I ran an Evo8 from about 30mph to 75. The Evo had 3 people in it, I had just me. The Evo walked away from me no problem. I probably could have hung with or beat the Evo in my warmed over '89 Camaro, but the BMW wasn't even close. I'm guessing this Evo had a few mods like increased boost and such. The Evo is quick and is a great track car. The Q is a 2 ton cruiser with a somewhat strong engine and decent brakes as is expected from a higher priced sedan... 15 years ago. If you had an E39 M5 or AMG of some sort, you'd probably have a decent chance. If this race against an Evo is really important to you, skip the ECU and go straight to a 150+hp wet shot of nitrous and hope it holds together. Sooo, have those chain guides been replaced?

EVO is a turbo charged 4-banger made by Mitsubishi. It is basically a souped-up Lancer with nice goodies. It competes with Subaru WRX Si. It is a world renowned rally car that won numerous championship over the years.

in reply to the OP, the NICO ECU is definitely BETTER than the JWT.

1. It gives more HP (maybe 10HP by seat of pants feel)2. It is safer.... The JWT ECU ignores the knock sensors (so that the ECU will feel good even if the car has bad KS). our ECU will run like a stock computer if the KS are bad. What this allows us to do is run more advanced, that way if knocking did occur the computer would be able to compensate for it. With JWT, this is not the case.3. my ECU has multiple switching options.

So everyone knows, I am planning on doing the ECU's again around christmas.

Exactly. Reading the original NICO ECU thread will reveal the difference between NICO and JWT progarmming.

There was one not too long ago. Actually two if I remember. Check the Classified Forums for Infiniti parts.
