I bought a JWT chip for my ecu and it is very nice!!! I had conditioned myself to shift at 6800 rpm, now I am retraining myself to shift at 7300.

The difference in performance is amazing! It pulls strongly in any gear. I recommend getting the chip. I shift manually, so I might not buy the tcu.

The best part was the price and the turn around time. I bought the chip from aaacomp. I sent him my chip on Monday and got it back on Wednesday!!

Also, he has a ton of stuff for our cars! Check out his website and give him a call!

I thought JWT had a chip for the 1995 ECU and TCU?

They do. But recall my experience with JWT (there was a whole thread on it).

I don't think Qship has an actual Jim Wolf chip - aaacomp does some remapping of his own (I could be wrong).

the elevated redline is a function of the ECU.

Fred..:)Edit: I guess I was wrong.

TCU mod is only for the old Q's with 2nd-gear start (to force 1st gear start).

The factory TCU will shift before redline even with the JWT ECU I believe.

My point exactly. Unless the TCU is reprogrammed or, more accurately, remapped, then it doesn't know to shift at 7300 rpm as opposed to 6400 rpm.

Also, some of JWT TCU for the older Q45 were tri-mode.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t

Which bring me to my millioan dollar question.

I have a JWT ECU/TCU combo (NOS set-up programming) which shifts at 6500, $#%@&!*.

how can i get it to shift at 7200 in Non NOS operation?

Fred...

Perhaps you have the trimode TCU and the switch is in the stock position. Look for a cable running from the TCU that has a small 3 position switch on the end of it.

I couldnt find such cable, but thanks for teh pointer.

I would be happy even with the stock redline of 6900...

There must be a rpm back off from the redline [fuel cut off point] to allow the transmission to shift. The TCU says shift but the solenoid may be slow and the pressure low, and the valve body worn and sluggish.

The TCU just drives [provides on/off voltages for] the solenoids inside transmission. The transmission lags behind the engine [rpm] due to torque convertor slippage. The Consult can be set up to log, engine rpm, tc output rpm, and speed sensor/turbine sensor.......so you can log/graph to the 0.025 second increment. You can monitor the period when the ignition advance is decreased [under control of tcu] to determine the real shift time [effective time when acceleration ceases]

my transmission shifts on the dot at 6500 rpm everytime.:(

I suspect a non OEM setting either to allow some extra safety for NOS or it's just an ate-up part.My previous JWT Ecued Q shifted at 7200 and teh non JWt at 6900 sharp.

There is a aftermarket switch on the console whose function is a mystery to me.

3 aftermarket switches total:

One that is clearly NOS on/off ( lit blue when in on postion)One that is supposedly to switch to the seperate race gas fuel cell3 rd one, I dunno :help:Can be toggled forward (will return to starting positon on relese) and can be toggled backward (also returns to middle positon on release)

Fred..

Qship,

I saw you have some head work? and CAMs going on on your 1991 Q45a. I just got 91 Q45a - and its time to get ACTIVE! LOL ....

Im interested in what other folks are doing to their DOHC heads - if anything, and who's the place to do it.

Drop me a line here , or perhaps another thread - so as to not hijack this good one!

No head work or CAMS just yet. My next project is to reseal the valve covers and swap out the active p/s pump and put on a standard p/s pump.

With just the chip from aaacomp and manual shifting, my car redlines at 7300.

I was in DC this past weekend and my friend's Boxster learned the hard way...you better respect the Q!

I just dont know why i was so surprised when I outran my buddies 2000 Mustang GT. It was a 5 spd w/260 hp at 3600lbs. Doing the math, my 95 "slow" Q needs to be at 292hp for the same power to weight ratio. Plus I dont have stick shift and am against neutral drops in anything but my old Caddy. Took'em off the line and everything after. I think the Q hp is closer to 290 to 300 hp. My 93Q was listed at 3950lbs, but 95 at 4045lb. I think due to thicker glass, xtra amenities, etc.

aaa said they have no upgrade ECU for '95Q. They replied JWT...$700 and 4 month wait! No need for TCU '93 and newer. And no need to buy a '96Q at all.
