Im planing on buying a JWT chip for the improved performance, I wanted to know how hard is it to install? Is this kind of part one that requires special tools? Also the one Im looking at is 580$ part# 114680, is their a place to get it cheapier? Is the JWT the best chip upgrade that is on the market place, or are their others?

Thanks for the help.

Passenger kick panel, take off that carpet cover. 3 bolts hold it on if im not mistaken, 10mm each. then push the ecu up, then pull toward the centr of the car, it should pop out.

At least consider the chip mentioned here, it requires a little better maintained and treated life, but is less $$ that the JWT.

Yep, only requirement for our chip is that you have good KS, but its stupid if you are thinking about buying an ECU without doing that.

As long as we're on the KS subject...is there anyway to check them? How would one know if they were bad? Excessive ping or what?

Get out your ohm meter.

Dennis (Q45tech) says they can sometimes measure good but still not work.

Whether they read good or not, if the ECU throws the KS code, it will de-tune the car.

I bet, if you asked, Wes & Robert could eliminate the KS safety in their program. Just don't go running to them if you detonate the motor

Thats cool to read that its not to hard or a profesional job. The knock sensor comment, I dont fully understand it being a problem. Maybe if the knock sensor is not working at all it could be a problem. I think the cheapier ECU would be great, but what are the HP improvent numbers, and is it equal to the JWT? How would the ECU throw the KS code, when the JWT has been tested on the dyno, and they have been street tested, they say the remapping is enuf to reconfigure the current mapping to work great.

Thanks for the help, Im still not shure wich Ill buy, because I dont care about the cost, I just want the BEST!

How can I buy a ECU from Wes, when I think they dont make one for a 1994?

( we are terminating ECU for further research on 94 ECU's and Y33s...... )

IIRC, Wes is using one in his 94. Maybe he can re-cap for you how/why it can be used.

Check out the other ECU forums, they explain it in detail. What I did is purchase an ECU from a salvage yard which I found using http://www.carparts.com . My car is a '94 and the ECU is from a '93. I got the model number from the place, forwarded that to Robert and he confirmed that it'd work. For the '93 I was told to make sure it was gold anodized and not silver. I had it drop shipped direct to Robert, he changed the chip and shipped it on to me. Now it's in and it's goooood! Doubt I'll put it on a dyno but my butt dyno says it's better and quite obviously.

90-95 ECU are all interchangeable so long as your options are the same (really only TCS vs non TCS matters)....

He is right im running a 91 active ECU in my 94 Q45t.....

our ECU handily OUTPERFORMS JWT.. Ive had both!

Sounds great, I will get a gold 93 ECU and install with wes's chip. I will start looking around to find a good deal. Is their a way to test the 93 ECU when I get it? How much money is wes's chip going for?

Again thank you guys for all the help, I really am enjoying learning about my Q!!!

A month or so will be perfect, I have to do a few things to my Q this month. I have to clean the TB, MAF, test my injectors, maybe a fuel flush. When the chip is ready, I will be ready to thanks.
