hey my current mods are i/h/e/jwt cams.soon I am getting the JWT ECU and am looking into some adjustable cam gears.

The problem is, as I udnerstand is, is that the KA24DE has the gears inside the valve cover as opposed to outside like Hondas, maybe that is why the major factor that I have not heard of many ppl running the cam gaers. I've searched and found quite a few threads about the adjustable cam gears but not paired w/ JWT cams. Any personal experience would be great, also where would one start in adjusting the gears for the JWT cams? advancing the intake cam and retarding the exhaust?

edit: oh yea 1 more question, if the cams were designed by JWT wouldn't you think it'll work best at 0 settings? I guess another question could be, is there anything significant to be gained from doing this to warrant the trouble/cost??

Hondas have the Cam gears under the valve cover as well. Most of them tend to cut the vavle cover to reveal the gears and allow them to adjust them with it off.

Personally, I'm a little timid about this modification because 1. it leave holes for depris to get into the timing belt/chain area. and 2. People know you at least can tune your engine (if the gears are not set at 0)

With any aftermarket cam and cam gears you want to actually spend time CLAYING your motor after making adjustments to be 100% sure you will not have any valve to piston contact at the set degrees.

No, the cams would not work best at the 0 setting. They will work better than stock however, dialing in valve overlap to adjust the power curve where you drive most often is the main reason for the cam gears.

Typically, you can gain around 10whp dialing in the proper amount of valve overlap. It takes time though.

I spoke to jwt the other day and the guy basically said the jwt works it's magic from the factory setting, that's what it was designed for, and unless you are running some huge big boost set up there is no need for the cam gear.

I got em used from structured240, got a real good deal. there was a definite power loss below 3000 RPMs, but the gain from 4000+ is definitley fun and continues until redline. I have yet to dyno them, but will soon in a couple of months.
