I know what thread you are referring to, and that guy was a jackass and deserved to have his clutch blow up on him. He didn't break it in like he was supposed to. You MUST MUST MUST MUST break a clutch in properly or it will drastically shorten the life/strength of the clutch. Secondly, he KNEW it was slipping and kept running it anyway. Did you see the pics of the flywheel? He has actually run it so long that it had blued the steel of the flywheel, ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE BACK SIDE!!!. That takes A LOT of heat, more than that poor clutch was ever designed to handle. More than probably any clutch was designed to handle. I FIRMLY believe that was due to poor installation/break in. As for having less bolts, that's silly (no offense to you) it's not like the flywheel has extra bolt holes that you can use if you want to, or that spec made a clutch that didn't use all of the holes available. I have a SPEC stage 3 on my car right now that I drive/drift/race/track in. Drifting is hard on clutches and if a clutch is going to slip, that’s when it will do so, and I've NEVER had mine even think about slipping. And I'm very confident that when I get my S14 BB T28 on the car and turn the boost up to 12-14psi, it's not going to slip then either. The SPEC unit is good. Ignore the single incident of failure due to stupidity.CA19DET wrote:did you find that the SPEC cover attached to the flywheel securely, i saw the one that exploded on freshalloy and they said it was cause it had less bolts to attach to the flywheel or somehing.. i am very sceptical about these clutches after seeing that one explode, but then again all manufacturers have had failures, especially when it comes to clutches.
