Well, I have had the longest damn summer ever, I am ready for it to end! I finally got something to look forward to, I thought that I had finally found a car I could afford after working for 5 weeks: A 92 240sx Fastback SE, running and everything, even a clean title! It just needs some work to the body and interior. So, I set up a trailer to pick up the car, 2 hrs from my house. I went to ask my dad to pull out the money for my car today (I am a minor and stuck with a custodian savings account, my dad has to sign to withdraw : \ ) and he is now refusing to withdraw my money so I can buy a car.

Not two weeks ago, he asked me why I wanted my license so bad, I didnt have a car. Well, he never did take me to get my license, so now he tells me today, why do you want a car if you dont have your license or insurance? He says his reason for not wanting me to have a car is that I dont have a permanent job persay (I do house reconstruction/repair, $10 an hour under the table) and its hard to have a regular burger flipping job without a car where I live, we are like 10 miles away from anything besides Arco Gas stations and the such. I dont know what to do, it just seems like he doesnt want me to drive. He wont buy me a car and he wont let me buy a car for myself.....I am one out of maybe 25 seniors this year at school that doesnt have a car yet, seriously! I thought my dad would help me a long time ago, and still even after earning it myself and finding the perfect project I STILL cant get a $%^%&$ CAR!

sorry, I just need to vent, too much drama for me

Not having your own transportation suck bad. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. BUT you need to explain to your dad why you want (need) a car and license. Make him understand that you will be the one providing the upkeep on it.

I've had my license for 4 years and I just bought my 5th vehicle this week.....and I'm only 20. I couldn't live without my license or a vehicle. Just try and talk with him about it and present your case very well.

just have a father-son talk with him. convince him that you'll be responsible enough to get a stable job, keep the car in good shape and drive safely. and if you have enough money for the car and have leftovers, i'd say go for it if he says okay.

I guess I must not be trying hard enough or something, I have done everything possible, my dad still refuses to help me in any way at all, wont even lend me any money because he doesnt have any. : \ And now he wont let me spend my own money on my own car. I was forced to deposit my checks into the "custodian account" because I didnt have an ID. I got an ID coming in the mail so I just have to pay the checks cashed fee. Hah, anyways I am just going to apply for a job everywhere tomorrow morning. I think I have a friend that will drive me into town early. wish me luck!

Well luckily I didn't have that problem but my dad won't let upgrade my car any.So then I bought my 2nd 240 by myself and he is all for me making it as fast as my money will allow. He knows it's my money I worked for and if I'm goign to piss it away well then I'll piss it away it's my choice. I keep all my monmey at my house so don't have to worry about the bank and prefer cash over checks so don't have to deal with keeping up with the book. That sucks that he is doing that to you. Is there no way you get those checks cashed without him knowing and you just hold the money or does he know all your hours and etc.?

Well the good thing is that I already paid for and took a photo for my ID, it is on its way in the mail. The only problem is that it does me no good without the $600 I saved over the last 5 weeks, my dad just refuses to go to the bank with me to clear out my account or even withdraw anything. He says that since I am a minor its not even really my money, hah! I dont know what happened, he always did say that he was going to buy me a car, and since he remarried he refuses to even lend me any money towards a car. I even HAVE to have a job to even buy a car, as a car is useless without insurance and a job is required to pay for insurance to him, he doesnt realize that I have a whole lot of under the table work ahead of me, he thinks thats when it will end heh. I dont know about you guys but I would rather work with friends for $10 an hour than for a greasy mcdonalds manager for about half that. I finally started looking forward to having a project I can work on, and I cant even buy my own car with my own money I just dont get it.......

Dude, I'm in almost the same situation.

I have some inheritance money (for college) and I can get some money out as long as I ask for it and as long as its a worthwhile cause (school).

I asked for $1500, and the holder of the money (my Grandma, should be my dad, complicated story), so sh1t happens and it seems as though I won't even get my car, a few weeks go by, my dad calls up, and they both decide that I can get that money as long as I can show proof that I can pay for insurance ( that means I have to have a steady job ) So, all summer, as some of the members here that I have discussed this with know, is that I have been looking for a job basically the whole summer. I have about 15 or so applications out and it sucks, no one is calling back. I did however just now start applying at the fast food places (Jack in the Box) as my last resort and in flat out desperation.

My dad is all for me having a car, and all for me modifying it. ( he even asks me about the kind of swaps that can be done to some other imports, he likes the fact that if the engine goes on the 240sx, it can be replaced easily)He has been trying to help to the best of his ability and I agree with him by me having to get a job so I can pay for insurance.

In your case, grin and bare it man, take a job at a fast food place, its not gonna kill you, and I know you probably dont want to make a career out of it. As for your dad, the way you explain his actions, well, he disgusts me.

"He says that since I am a minor its not even really my money"

Reading something like that gets me angry, thats a topic for you to have a major discussion/ severe beating with your father.

It'll get better man, lucky for you is that you actually, sorta, have a job, and I dont have a thing. For right now I'm stuck driving the van/Cadillac:) to school. I don't mind one bit.Lucky for me is I dont have punk *** for a father like you.

I mean no offense to you man, but the actions being done by your father pisses me off, seriously.

It's good to respect your parents and their authority and all that, but there are just some things that you gotta fight for.
