and you honestly think both wheels look bad on an s14?! If so, what do you sugest? I mean, offset *is* an issue here. I have found other wheels I love, but the offset isn't low enough and I don't want a spacer.

its all a personal preference things man, if you like them, get em :)(My personalf avorite wheels brands are RAYS/VOLK, HRE, Racing hart, BBS, and fiske...)-chet

Ben, I voted against the Stang rims.Mostly because that is Chris's car and he is a bit close to have the same wheels. Also because I don't think that they have enough space between the spokes. The others are OK but didn't jump out at me.I'm a big Rays/Volk fan myself but those are a bit more on the pocket book.I also like the stock wheels look.As Exar-Kun said its your car and your wheels so get what you like the best.;)

Ben:

Neither really jumped out at me. But if I HAD to choose...I'd go with the Borbet's (not lip for a 7.5"). Not really a follower of that wheel brand though. As for my personal preferrence...I like Volk/Rays, SSR, & Racing Hart wheel lines, but they are all pricey. In particular, I'm hoping to get the GTN's or the 57Pro's. I sure wished the G-Games came in a wider width for the 17's though bcuz they aren't too pricey. That's my take on it.

I don't like either.... um.... either.

But it seems as though your on a budget so I can't think of other cheap ones that look better. I'm a big fan of Advan / Work wheels so our tastes may be different though. I love 5 spokes however.

The wheels I'm working two jobs to save up for:

The Mustang wheels are a 70.7mm center bore wheel and would not be hub-centric on your car . :tisk: I'd stick with something with the correct fitment. On a related note, we do have the Borbet E in stock as well. What ever you do, make sure it has the correct center bore!

My favorite wheels are also RAYS/VOLK, etc etc, but people those are VERY EXPENSIVE!!!!!! I am a 17 year old that works at subway, that needs tires, and I am going to get wheels eventually anyway, so I'm not going to waste money on buying tires for these SE rims. I like the SE rims alot also, but I want something bigger, different, etc. Plus, my front right wheel is bent anyway, the finish on all 4 isn't that great anymore (dont want to powdercoat, *shrugs*). AHHH THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!!!

Work at a better paying place as soon as you turn 18 (like home depot or circuit city) and work more hours. It's all about sacrifice. Or get the borbets and powdercoat those.

Borbet wheels are heavy and weak. My buddy had the Type E's on his Miata. Bent all four in less than a year. He went and bought 4 cheap *** Rota's. He's had them for over 2 years driving on the same roads that he drove with the Borbets and nothing too bad has happened yet. He only has th 15" too so he had plenty of sidewall to cushion the impact to the rims.

Ben:

Taking your income/budget (not necessarily your age) into consideration...have you ever tried the route of wheel web sites (i.e., wheel max, wheel wharehouse, dragon wheels, etc.)?? i'm not too sure of the quality, although they do carry some "decent" brands and some of the lookalikes don't look all that bad. Maybe this will satisfy that "need" for now until you have even more money next year after working at Home Depot or something! just a suggestion...:D

I've tried tirerack, wheelmax, etc. i have found wheels I like, but they dont offer a low enough offset. I can't buy any wheel and stick it on, since my Z brakes wouldn't clear. I dont want spacers either.

I saw the line "its all about sacrifice".... I have sacrificed alot of time and money in this car, and for what? I have a nice, clean car. Great. It sounds good, looks good, is quicker than most civics, etc. Great. I'm not going to sacrifice alot just to be better than someone else. I dont care about that anymore, not since after my wreck. I realized its a friking car, who cares. I take care of it, like to mod it for the fun of it, but not putting thousands of dollars into it. I would if I had the money, but I dont, and wont. I would buy Rays if I needed them that much. Sure, they look great, are light, etc. But, I dont need anything other than looking good, cause I dont autox, drag, anything. I drag for the fun of it, but I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars trying to lighten up my car to gain 1/10 of a second.

So basically, if you know of a wheel with about a 37mm offset or lower with a nice looking lip, at least 7.5" wide, not too expensive, let me know, please. I have looked everywhere it seems.

And what does "hub-centric" mean? I know they have the same 5x114.3 bolt pattern/size thing as we do.....

The hub of the car is the little nub in the middle that is in the center of the bolts. Nissan hubs are 61mm. Toyota/Lexus hubs are 66mm, etc etc etc. Usually, aftermarket rims are not hubcentric meaning that the hub size opening on the rim does not exactly match the car's hub. The way the rim sits perfectly is one of two ways. Lugcentric (usually aftermarket rims have a V-shaped lub hole as opposed to an acorn or rounded lug hole) so the lugs hold the rim exactly in the center...or you can get hub centering rings which are adapters which fit over the car's hub to match the exact size of the aftermarket rim hub opening.

Two and Three piece rims which have separate hubs for different applications are usually hubcentric but one piece cast are usually lugcentric.

Hey Ben, ever thought about the G35/350z wheels in the 17inch size? I think those look great.

17 * 7 lightweight

OR

light weight 17*8http://www.5zigenusa.com/pages/wheels/fn01rc.html

If a wheel is not hub-centric you are placing a lot more stess on the lugs than they are designed to handle. In time the lugs will start to flex and there can be vibration issues as well as failure of the lugs due to fatigue. That's why the factory wheels are designed to fit snug on the nose of the axle hub! It's just bad news and we have seen this before on this forum. You couldn't pay me enough to get me to drive a car with a lug-centric wheel on it. It's not safe :nono

Ok I have a question. I know the stock s14 SE 16's have a 42mm offset (at least I think I know) and this clears the Z brakes in the front. The 5zigen fn01rc's which I am now interested in, are recomended in a 27mm offset for my car. I was thinking about getting around a 35mm offset, but 27?? That is pretty low.....what do you recomend? They have this wheel in a 35mm offset, but they say its for FD's, etc.

when in doubt, err on the lower side man....it'll prevent you from rubbing on shocks/struts and coilovers....

the FD has a lot more room(and a higher offset wheel stock) than we do in our 240's.-chet

I dont want some ghetto looking thing man. 27mm might have them sticking out away from the car a lil more than I want. I want them as flush as posslible.....but now that i think of it, especially the rears on the s14, aren't flush at all. Maybe 27 would be better than I think.......*walks off from computer rambling*

A little trip to google gave me this...

http://www.wheelmax.com/Wheels/5zigen/5zigen.html

at 210 a piece, they're not as expensive as the others but you'll be making quite a bit of sandwiches still.
