just keep it tuned. oil, air and fuel filters, plugs wires rotor and cap. stuff like that. next time you get an oil change somewhere see if they lube the chassis.

If I were you, while replacing your timing CHAIN "not belt", replace your wather pump, 240sx's water pumps sometimes are known for having bad berings in the water pump. My car just rolled over 81,000 miles on it. I also advise flushing out your transmission fluid and put some Mobile 1 synthetic in it, especially since "well I think" that the 240's have ****ty 3rd gear synchro's. Good luck.

I thought we have timing chains because they do not need replacing. They are supposed to last a long time???

timing chains stretch over time and metal will only stretch so far before it snaps! which will cause a good amount of damage.but i thought the chains were good until 100,00thanks jake

Ok, also here is another way to look at it. Here is the HUGE problem I see. Yes yes, the timing chain is metal, but what about the other internals running in unison with it such as the timing chain gears, rails, and most importantly the timing chain tensioner. All of them are PLASTIC!!. If the tensioner fails on the timing chain, the chain can cut into the plastic gears and boom, there goes all of your valves.

And for how long they are supposed to last. . . I have been told by pro's that they last as long as the tensioner last and keeps working. Just varies b/n cars.
