Hello all. I just test drove a 93 j30 with 211k. The car drove great, except for a hard shift from 1st to 2nd. Has anyone else experienced this with there j30, or is it a pretty good sign that the transmission is about to go? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,Jake

Thanks for the reply. I read one of the sticky post up top (after I posted the question) and it said that it's pretty much par for the course until the car is properly warmed up. Any other issues I should be aware of before purchasing?

Thanks.

The important question I would ask the current owner is whether or not the timing belt and water pump have been replaced. If he/she doesn't know or has not done it, you can immediately factor in about $700 worth of work.

Timing belt was replaced in January. Not sure about the water pump.

Keep in mind the J30 is an expensive car to maintain. A lot of parts are model specific and available through dealers only at a premium price(it is an Infiniti after all). There is very little aftermarket(performance upgrades, no body kits). Some owners have experienced buyers remorse.

I would like to thank all of you for your help and advice. I was about to pull into the guys driveway yesterday, cash in hand, ready to buy the j30 when I got a call back about a 97 Maxima SE. I went ahead and bought the Maxima... actually kind of stole it!

Anyways, I appreciate the advice and I guess I need to move next door into the Maxima forum.

Take care.
