Car: 2004 black G35 coupe

Post

I've had my eye on a later model G35 coupe for a while and just got back from test driving one...diamond graphite, just turned 23k; Bose/Navi/Moonroof; brand new rubber in back, decent tread in front. Dealer is asking $25,800.

I'll preface my comments with the fact that I drive a '06 Civic Si. My first impression was that the car felt much heavier than my Si since, well...it is. The shifter was also pretty "notchy" and not nearly as smooth as my Si and with noticeably longer throws. I've never been a big fan of leather but the seats were awesome! That said, I wouldn't hesitate to trade my Si for it. The power was great, and I really like the car.

I'd welcome any feedback on the price. From the initial research that I've done (Edmunds TMV) this seems like a pretty good deal. Perhaps it will get better if I wait until we get a little closer to the end of the month.

The only two things keeping me from jumping on it is that I really like the G in black and the fact that winter is right around the corner which won't give me a lot of time to enjoy the car...both of which might prompt me to wait until spring when I might search for an '05 or later. Just thought I'd post about my test drive. Thanks in advance for any thoughts/feedback.

Welcome to nico,

if you did not fall in love with the G right away than that car is not for you. I would pick a WRX or EVO maybe GTI. Those would suit you more. I think.

About the price.

Not the best that's for sure.

My advice would be to get the newest model you can afford. The 05-07 coupes have less problems than 03-04 years. You'll never look at a honda again!

No question I like the car alot...I think the reason I'm wasn't completely jacked about is the color, which is very nice, but I'd prefer the car in black...although I know I can't be took picky since it's used. And the fact that I was trying to enjoy the test drive while I was making small talk with the sales rep took a bit away from the experience as well. I told the guy (very nicely) that I'd be back to drive it again...by myself.

Would never consider the Subie or Mitsu and VW's scare the hell out of me. Good to know about the price. Thanks!

Very good to know. I told the rep I was looking for an '05...I'm fairly certain their price on the 04 will come down.

To be honest, the G35 coupe is pretty much the only car (within reason) that I'd trade my Si for right now.

Black was near impossible for me to locate when I was shopping around...let alone the fact that 90% of all the G's listed were automatics =(.

Wait for a color you like...color is one of the hardest things to change about the vehicle and there's nothing worse than walking up to your car everyday and thinking, "Man, I wish it was black."

Black is yummy

glad to hear that. From what you were saying it sounded like you don't really want the car. But I am glad that's not the case.

It's not an Infiniti dealership, but a used car dealership that pretty much carries only higher-end brands. They had a red auto on the lot a couple weeks ago but someone bought it...I wouldn't buy red anyway. That's a hell of a price you got!

Having to chat with the sales guy during the test drive really kept me from being able to get "dialed in" driving it. I hate that! If I'm by myself I can really focus on the details.

I've owned 4 black cars so keeping them clean is not an issue for me. I'm pretty anal about how my cars look...ask my wife!

When I testdrove mine at the first time. They said it is their insurance policy to come with the costumer. I said fine but no talking and buckle up 'cause I am going to drive to the limit the car. He was sitting in the back my wife at the front. When we stopped he got out from the back quickly and asked if I was race cardriver before. He looked really really scared. I think it was funny. However next time he said he was busy to come with me let me drive it alone (screw the insurance policy).Chicken. I think that was funny. Just hammer it. To testdrive a sportcar that's the only way. He probably reading this. Last time I talked to him he said he check the site sometimes along with other sites. Anyways we have a good relationship from that point.

The correct answer would have been "...I wouldn't buy auto anyway" LOL as far as the color goes...my decision was between black and white. I got the white and love it, but black is soo sexy too.

zozo, I did the same thing to a salesman when I test drove a used viper! we took it out and he wanted me to stay in the 35 mph zones. I told him we needed to take it down the highway. He said he didn't know if we could. I told him 'oh, yes we can!' Evidently, he was new to our country! (I think he said he was from Iran. Nice guy!!)As we started down the ramp he was babbling about his 5 or 6 kids and how he needed a sale. I nailed it and he shut up! When I got it into third, I told him 'Sorry, what were you saying?', he said 'just drive Mr. Richard' and was holding on for life!!
