I have a s13 with a red top motor, and just swapped out the turbo from a 180sx, and left the heat shield on the turbo, and now the heat shield hits the Steering shaft when I turn, Curious if this has happened to anyone else.

That is why you are supposed to remove the heat shields BEFORE you put in the turbo or engine. This has always been a piece of common knowledge for the SR swap.

I removed all my heat shields because there is nothing for them to protect against besides dumb *** fingers while motor is hot or wires, but all mine run on the passenger side like most usdm chassis. The only thing that is remotely close to the heat is the wastegate boost reading and the oxygen sensor wires.

I have Nismo motor mounts and I still have my heat shields and I have no issues. And my buddy has the same setup, he has no issues.

Time for new mounts says I.

Thats true, your other option is to simply replace the engine mounts and leave the heat shields on :P

If your mounts are crapping out, your engine can move around in the engine bay during cornering or torque during acceleration. Both cases can result in the steering column becoming locked on the heat shields.
