I have a 90 240sx, and Im gonna swap a s13 dohc. The thing is though, I want a wrx in 3-4 years. So Im debating if I should rebuild the dohc (using oem parts) or just swap it in and hope it holds up well. I dont have a full-time job, and getting a WRX is assuming that I will have one by then.

What would you do?

Rebuild that KAE man, im telling you, its not worth all that money to get a DE and build it up, figure you would spend 4g(jsut a number) thats 4g that if you throw into the bank, you can ear a great amount of interest over the 3-4yr wait for the WRX.

Just a thought.

Guess this would be the smartest thing to do...with the wrx factor in there.

So far (OEM):. bearings ($16.40). rods ($306). pistons ($172.88). piston rings ($74.82). head gasket ($39.37)

Anything else major I should consider?

more than likely u wont need new pistons. It takes alot of bust a piston, same goes with your rods.

Alright, so scratch those 2.

. bearings ($16.40). piston rings ($74.82). head gasket ($39.37). valve cover gasket ($11.67)

I also doubt I would be doing the labor myself, as I dont have the space or tools. If I had space/tools, I would definitely try it myself...but oh well.

that sounds about right. what about machining the sides? you should get those checked. of course. and if youre rebuilding then you might as well get the heads done.

****in cake and makes the car run smoother.

is there really a big difference between 300 hp in wrx and 300 hp in a 240. yeah ones awd so thats a better launch but one is much lighter. one has more technology but really, steppin on the gas is steppin on the gas. i'm going for the dohc also in my 89 240sx and then i'm going for a turbo next year. i'm waiting on the release of the aem's ems system. i guess i would rather be a little different. also i when i did a search they say that the dohc does breath a little bit better than the sohc.

It all depends what you want to do with the 240. I have a 92, with over 230K miles on it and i just now decided to do a rebuild. I personally want a strong reliable car. I figure for $2500 give or take a little, I'm going to have a car that will last me another 200k plus miles. I won't be blowing past people at the stop lights, but then again i won't be tuning my car every weekend. I see you have a parts list growning, don't forget to do all the seals and check all the lines and hoses. I will not be doing the rebuild, so i'm also paying for labor. If you have a strong base KA and you take good care of it, you can always get a turbo kit.... but that will lead to bigger and more expensive things.
