just started KAT, a few questions

I just started up the KAT project Ive been working on for the past month, and have come to a crossroads.

1. I revved the engine up to 3000 rpm, in neutral, with very little force on the gas pedal. should a "normal" turbo spool at all in this range, because I was getting no read in pressure. do I have to be on the road, and goose it in order for the turbo to spool.

2. how easily should the turbine spin, should you be able to flick it and have it keep rotating?

1. Yes, as far as I know.. the car must be under load (driving) in order to see boost. Although your bov, if you have one, should still let off air when you slam the throttle plate shut.

2. No, the turbine should not spin very much at all when you flick it. Even when you turn it with your fingers hard it shouldn't continue spinning for very long. Yet, the rotation should be smooth nonetheless.

Actually it depends on the size of the turbo. Smaller turbos can see some boost with no load under WOT. My T04B can see enough airflow under a no load WOT rev to activate the BOV, but manifold pressure never reads more than 0 in this condition.

thats good to know, then my turbo should be fine. Im taking it out today if I can get the oil leak fixed, Ill update later today

my turbo spins very easy when i turn it w/ my fingers. you should be able to spin it w/ your fingers and it should spin freely at least a couple turns or more.
