Ok so I have a tt z that was a parts car before. So it's missing Allot of expensive parts. But the engine does run. I also have a 82 f150 with a good body but a crappy engine. Would it be worth it to make a 82 f150 vg30dett? Just for the fun of it.

Just a little extra info. The above mentioned z is my second one. So I will still have a real z to drive too.

wanting some feedback. Mostly from people that have done an engine swap or that know of someone that had done something like this.

How fun will this be since I will now have a huge engine bay to work with?

Into a Ford would be hard and not worth it in the end. Things you would have to overcome would include oil pan location compared to where the front axle sits, engine mounts, transmission mounts, drive line, wiring but being an 82 Ford has to be carbureted, wiring would be pretty easy. Just use the stock engine harness and ecu and add the constant power, switched power and ground. Then you've got to fight the tach signal, you would need a special signal converter, then the Ford mechanical Speedo and Nissan electronic Speedo problem. Then exhaust, inter cooling, radiator and hoses that fit the Ford chassis and route to the vg. Hopefully the Ford Is already a stick, then you just need a custom line to connect the Ford master to the Nissan slave. Custom heater core lines. Somehow wire the internally regulated alternator to work on a system designed for an externally regulated alternator. Custom power steering lines to fit the Ford rack and Nissan pump. And honestly the list keeps going.

Fun idea but in no way worth the time or money. At minimum your looking at a few thousand dollars and that implies you are more than handy with a welder, you are somewhat of an expert fabricator, and you are knowledge with the different ways you can overcome each of these specific problems. If not I can't even begin to guess what it would cost to do this. I say this because with the Z chassis we are blessed with companies like Z1, specialty Z, CZP and others who offer anything we would ever want in a bolt on application. Not so much into an 82 ForIf it were me I would personally sell the Ford and continue your idea with an 80's Nissan hard body with a factory v6. Correct me if I'm wrong but they came with a vg30 or vg33?

Thanks. I am in no way a master mechanic. So it's a pretty impossible task. I just think it would be a fun ongoing project. The truck is pretty much an empty shell so using that chassis would be A lot easier than most engine swaps. But I don't thinki would ever actually do it.

It would be a fun project, no doubt it would have its difficulties. Whether its worth it depends on 2 things; 1. your skill level & 2. the depth of your pocket. Any custom job will be time & fund consuming any way you put it. What skywhine covered isn't entirely correct, as most of the items he covered could be converted fairly easily, for example: if the ford has PS the conversion would require 1 or 2 custom hoses @ around $200 a pop, a lot of the electrical stuff could be transplanted into the Ford from the Z or aftermarket could be used. The fab for the engine mounts would be a custom job along with a custom driveshaft but you could easily use your Z32 trans with the ford rear end. In reality it all comes down to how much you are willing to put in (time, effort, research, learning, MONEY). I've got a few plans of custom builds myself, I'm currently sitting in the middle of nowhere Australia building a bankroll to be able to fund these I've also spent the last 11 years of my life studying (on my own time) everything I could about mechanics, engines, electronics, stress, suspensions, handling, etc because I LOVE THIS ISHT. Basically it depends on how far into a state of complete lunacy you are willing to sink. If you are willing to go all the way then you will find ways to fund it. I could get waaaay into the nitty gritty but all in all, NO its not an easy or a small job by any means but its also not as terrifying as most imagine it to be.

There's a guy on here (the thread is somewhere) who's putting a vg30de into a sandrail (dune-buggy) so swaps like that are definitely possible. It helps greatly if you can weld and are mechanically inclined lol
