New member here. Figured i'd post some of the more recent stuff i've made.

There are loads more pics of all these things in my photobucket. Feel free to go through it.http://s230.photobucket.com/albums/ee275/Miami240/

This is my car a few years ago. I lost all pictures of the setup but basically it was a bone stock, old KA from valve cover to oil pan with a custom turbo setup i threw together and tuned. It made 407whp at 14psi on pump gas and was eventually seeing 20psi on 110 octane before i took her down. I never got dyno numbers from that. It was only a street tune. I went 11.08@123 mph on pretty much stock everything and drag radials. Had her going 125.xx mph during my second trip to the track but unfortunately i botched one pass and didn't have enough heat in the tires the second. It could have definitely gone 10's.

I had started to make new manifolds for it until i ran into a good deal on another motor. I ended up selling the stuff off to a friend of mine.

Got bored of the VQTT setup and ditched it. Gave the shell to my gf and started putting together a kat setup for her.

I have also done a bit of fabrication and standalone tuning on other cars such as my gf's 500hp srt4, a friend's honda sohc EF hatch, and another buddy's turbo k20 eg hatch and other 240's.

Wow.

Those are some nice pictures. Welcome to KA-T.

That's some pretty nice work there, but I just wonder what the spool time was like on those turbos being so far away from the block. I haven't seen too many people do it that way. But still a hell of a nice job.

Excellent work. Was Miami240 taken or did you piss off some people :-P

For those that haven't read "maximum boost" by corky bell, study these manifolds and you will have a great advantage.

Where did you get the intake manifold flange and plenum? How does the cast plenum compare with the fabricated piece?

ahaha...maybe they figured they could get a free manifold for it

Did the fabricated intake plenum have flush-mount radiused entries or the velocity stacks like the cast plenum?

How much did that change the power output/curve?At what HP would you advise going to a short runner intake like that?

I have a copy of it somewhere...maybe on PDF. I should really start reading, huh?

The new intake mani has the flush to the plenum backplate radiused stacks while my first intake mani had them raised off the floor. I have no idea how it changed the power curve considering i have never performed a controlled test. The only reason for using those RMR stacks is for convenience. I would much prefer a larger ID running with a small taper and a big, variable radius velocity stack sitting just slightly off the backplate but i haven't found the materials to do it with AND maintain durability. I also don't have the capabilities at this time to make my own.

I don't suggest a switch over to a short runner intake mani according to hp level. It should be more based off of your use and personal preference. Some people are anti rev. They like to keep rpm down and low end torque high while others prefer a much peakier/smoother powerband ad that's when i recommend a switch.

Very rare that i see a custom intake manifold that i like. That first manifold that was on your old setup was very well designed.

The VQ setup is sick too.

Gotta love your turbo choice . What BW are you running on your new Ka-T?

So your mostly a drag guy? Or are these streetable?

My buddy's new setup is a s372. My gf's new setup has a s366. I am a drag guy but street drag. I hate track only cars. Even though i might prefer a fully gutted/chopped car, i still like to keep it stick shift, steady smooth idle, non overheating, and overall good driveability.

I agree 100%, especially on an over square motor.

Welcome to Nico, good to have an experienced fabricator around. I'm just a hack and slash guy myself. Mig and oxy/ace can do anything, not pretty, but it works My next big purchase would be a plasma cutter...I'd be in the shop for weeks at a time if I had one of those.

Think you could fab up a transmission adapter? KA to TH350/400?

I would love a plasma cutter as well but i'm afraid i'd end up with a death trap on wheels.

Glad to see another fabricator on here. Not sure on the trans adapter and definitely not for an auto.

Oh i know.... but there are two things i will never do to a car... make it track only or put an auto in it. I am all about actually driving my car. I see auto as a cheat for those that can't drive.

Yeah...a lot of people say that. My drag cars are also my daily's, track only is for pro's and people that race on a road course.

I grew up in Boston and enjoy the city...will be back eventually. Driving a manual in traffic blows goats my friend. I currently have a manual though, and I do enjoy it. The auto is so I can make my daily as fast as possible. Auto's launch better and, IMPO, nitrous works better with them as well. I'll be doing a roots style supercharger for my next project, so I won't have any lag issues but I'll have a max boost of about 15psi before the rpms eat the bearings inside the Eaton unit I'll be using. I can't afford a whipple or Kenne Bell unit... So I'll be using nitrous on the track.

What size tires are you running on the S14 in the first pic? I'm going to go with 275/60R15's on mine, with Summit 5 star alum specials

In the first pic, those are 275/50-15 MT radials. The red s13 is on 275/60-15 MT radials and here is a pic of his 28"ers on my s14...

IMO, that is the perfect size tire for a drag s14 street car.

Damn, those look like the same wheels I'm going to use. Are they Welds by chance? 8 or 10 inch? What spacing did you use? 28's it is!!!

I'm a huge fan if bigger is better
