hey guys, after a short dabble in the domestic world im beginning to see where i belong is with nissan... the mustang is 3500lbs... heavy and makes 220whp... needs to be light with lots of power lol Anyway... im kinda looking towards doing an S14 with a VH45DE in it. Ive got about 5 hours in searching this morning and if found some basic information but not exactly the things im looking for.

one of the main things that i did find was that its forged steel crank and rods in the vh45de through a google search, if thats wrong please correct me. I already knew about the factory 6 bolt mains with girdle, the girdle seems to be very typical of 90% of factory nissan engines.

Couple things im looking to find out, are listed below. Any help would be great and i thank everyone in advance!

- Is the VH45DE an open or closed deck motor

- whats the usual limit on stock internals? im looking to go for about 450whp

- who if anyone makes camshafts for these engines and what do they sound like and specs? (ive seen a thread on here already, just looking for a little more info, ive already pmed the person who started that thread)

- has anyone experimented with having the factory heads ported and polished? what kind of power gains? worth the money? (again ive seen a couple thing son the internet but not very descriptive..)

I think this is the only Nissan V8 with a lower reinforcing girdle.

Closed deck.

Might not be quite possible with just camshafts and headers. 400+ CHP probably is. You are on your own with camshafts, and a lot of dynamometer time and and ECU programming.

Ported and polished won't do you much without forced induction.

Read the VH/VK threads for more answers, and where this post may be moved by a moderator.

im pretty sure they have the VK45 (STUPID) in that car, nota VH45DE. HUGE difference.

read up in the VH/VK forums.

heres a teaser: People are running nearly stock VH45's to 500HP at 9000 RPM all day. headers and cams being the main mods.
