So as the title states I just replaced my bank 2 position 2 (driver's side after the cat) O2 sensor because of a constant P0158. Now I'm getting a P0160 O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 2). Does anyone have ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks!

Billy

Here's what I found :
P0160 -O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 2)

Component or System Description
The rear heated oxygen sensor (or sensor 2), after three way catalyst (manifold), monitors the oxygen level in the exhaust gas on each bank.
Even if switching characteristics of the heated oxygen sensor 1 are shifted, the air-fuel ratio is controlled to stoichiometric, by the signal from the heated oxygen sensor 2.

This sensor is made of ceramic zirconia. The zirconia generates voltage from approximately 1V in richer conditions to 0V in leaner conditions.

Under normal conditions the heated oxygen sensor 2 is not used for engine control operation.

When the DTC is detected?
An excessively high voltage from the sensor is sent to ECM.
Possible Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- High Fuel Consumption
- Excessive Smoke from Exhaust
Possible Causes
- Harness or connectors (The sensor circuit is open or shorted)
- Front Heated oxygen sensor (Bank 1) may be faulty
- Fuel pressure may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Intake air leaks may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks may be faulty
- PCV valve may be faulty
- Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
Possible Solution
Replacing the O2 Sensor 2 usually takes care of the problem

I would probably hook my voltmeter to it just to see what kind of voltage it is sending to the ecu... You'll have a better idea of the next step after this...

Sorry to hear that Billy-interested in seeing if you get this fixed. I am really considering replacing the same sensor (Check Engine Light is really starting to irritate me). Wont be messing with it until I hear about your outcome though. Dont want to open up another can o'worms.

Billy,

Any luck yet? Considering ordering the same position sensor for same code.

Sorry for not following up. I cleared the code a few days ago and it hasn't come back. I'm guessing the ECU had to adjust to the new part.

it was probably an artifact code from whenever you removed the old O2S.

it's always a good idea to consult your DTCs and clear old codes that may have already been addressed with whatever work you're doing. by doing this, you also have the opportunity to pull up any new DTCs you may have set.

The weird part is that months ago I had removed that sensor and let it sit in gas for 3 days hoping it would temporarily fix it. During that time I only had the P0158 low voltage code. When I installed the new one I got the P0160 no activity. I would think that if there wasn't a sensor present it would have thrown the P0160, but it didn't. Anyway it's gone and hopefully it wont come back.

Glad to hear it, from what I have read it looks like the NGK sensors are plug n play.

3 days in gas hmm.Looks like ill give it a shot I've been throwing this code for a couple months now.went around and tried all the other methods first to see if it wouldn't come back but no luck!

Update, just ordered NTK part no: 24543. Tired of the SES lite..
