The alternator in my car was inadequate to power all my accessories plus headlights, etc, especially at idle, so i replaced it with a 140 amp (stock rebuilt ) alt. from a 1990 240sx. I ordered it with a 5-groove pulley, the plug fit right in, and it bolted in with minimal modifications. In addition to the plug, there were 2 other wires - a red one (which had a very similar location to attach to on the new alt.) and a black one, i guess a ground, which i just attached to any available hole on the new alt. with the correct-sized thread. I can't see where i could have messed anything up.
At one point i was trying to remove the pulley to swap the old one on (old one is bigger), and i clamped the pulley in rubber then i was hammering a socket wrench to try to break that nut loose. I gave up when i saw that was going nowhere. The thought crossed my mind that the jolts could have damaged something, but i sort of doubt it. The alternator itself was still.
When i went to start the car, there is not even a clicking sound from the starter. The car has some electric, but not much. No heater fan, the clock on the dash has light but does not display digits (it was working fine before). I would really appreciate any help as i am stuck without a car right now.
