Car: building an s15!!!

Post

sup guys, well... to keep a long story short, i own a bmw and love my car, but as most bimmer owners know, there aren't many things we can do to our cars. i believe that i've just about maxed out all the visual upgrades possible for my ride and am simply bored. but recently i've been obsessing over the look of the look of the silvias and the idea of an s15 conversion sounds like an incredible project to work on. basically my question to you guys is, what yr. and model should i look for and what engine should i buy? i plan on keeping my e36, so 6g's to start is what i'm looking for. everything else will be done monthly afterwards. looking forward to posting a pic of my future s15 conversion on the boards!!!!

Like Fred said, welcome to NICO! With that said, I don't understand what you mean about not much to do to a BMW. Post up some pics of that bad boy and show us what you're talking about.

Second, if you're starting with 6 grand, I would buy a solid s13 and drop an SR or CA in there or turbo the KA. Power mods should definitely be the first step, at least in my not so humble opinion. The strawberry face conversion is pricey; about $3500 just for the body parts.

What are your priorities? A fast, fun car or a show car?

I would recommend going with the S13 as well and do a Turbo KA-T. If your total budget is 6K and you want exterior and motor, you can really only expect a light build whether you go KA-T or SR. Since your budget is that tight, I'd recommend KA-T. You can piece together a basic kit for less than a SR usually.

If you are looking at the s15 conversion, give us a call. Our basic kit sell for $699+ shipping. The headlights sell for $599+$25 shipping.

Take care!

ra328i, Something you should know about my friends on the boards here, is that most of them value go over show. I do myself. Since your engine question has been answered, (I'd go with the SR). Let's talk about body styles. Since your changine the frontend, there are only really 4 1/2 possibilities with chassis

90-94 coupe90-94 hatchback??~94 convertable95-96 coupe97-98 coupe

The 95 and 97 varry only very very slightly in the rear end apperance. So it is all what you want. The 95+ coupes were built for more luxuray and are a tad bit heavier that the 94-. Alot of people prefer the coupes which seems to give people the least amount of trouble with engine swaps, my 98' was a *****, and are really afordable. A good example of this are the signal auto 180sx drift cars. I personally like the 95-98's because they are bigger, or seem bigger. I encourage you to use the search key, you can find pretty much everything you want to know in one of these forums. Also check out the members gallery, we have some members with some damn fine cars. Also, check out our sponsers <---------- They have all the parts you need to fix your car up.you can also look at http://www.jspec.com, I've had pretty good success through them finding unique, or "more" unique parts. anyways, welcome to NICO!!!!Enjoy!

damn!!!! you guys are great!! thanks for all the help by the way, the 6k is just to start, after that i have about 600 a month every month to add new stuff. i just got a really good job and that's why i'm so passionate about this project. i guess i'll look into the s13's to start and go to the conversion after that. i am pretty much all about the cosmetics of a vehicle, but having a turbo would be damn sweet!!! i'll post some pics of my car as soon as i size them down...

Hm..well welcome to NICO first off =D . If you want to check out models, years, and a great deal of info on the 240sx I think this is the site to check out http://30moons.com/Nissan240SXIndex.php Good info to be found there, and that site should keep growing with information on aftermarket parts. I would also like to see your BMW, so get those pics posted soon :D

my phillips 6000k hids!!! i also have an active autowerke exhaust and cai, and turner motorsport conforti chip. these upgrades are essential for e36 bmw owners. bilstein touring shocks and it's not lowered as you can probably tell. i haven't done so because my low front bumper is very unforgiving. it's a 96 328i auto and it runs 15 flat!!! nothing extreme is done cosmetically because i like the luxury/sporty look i've achieved. plus true enthusiasts can tell that i'm not trying to imitate the big brother (M3). i'm not a poser!!!!

Very nice looking ride brotherman. My buddy has a 3 series bmw also and I love it when we roll in it, its just such a much better overall ride than my car.

Im a fan of your BMW. I am not a fan of the s15 conversion. I just think that the s15 conversion on 240s these days is played out and it takes away from the orignial beauty of the cars.

However, that is not what your question asked. So, in an effort to answer it, you would probably be best off buying an s14 because that is what most people put an s15 conversion on. Also, most people who do s15 conversions put sr20det motors in the car for that "JDM" style.

If I were you, I'd take the 6,000 and buy a clean s13 hatch and then use the leftover money to fix up and turbo the KA. The more you look at these cars, the more you will find that s13's and s14s without the conversions look ssooooo sweet. Just my opinion tho.

I just don't like the way the lines match between the 2 cars. Just doesn't seem right, but then again I hate the s13 sil80 conversion as well. I think it looks better on the s14.
