Lube Oil quality is always a hotly debated topic. Kendall is part of Quaker-State part of Pennzoil--a well known -make it as cheap as possible and advertise the hell out of it' outfit. Amsoil IS a QUALITY based product and IS great. However, with regular 3-4K changes (good filter too)on Valvoline, Chevron Dello, Havoline, Fire&Ice, one will never experience a lube oil caused wear or deposit problem in their engine. Note that Mobil-1 IS NOT the best product. Another extremely important part of the solution is good gasoline--one with a high detergency (one of the top teir or 'drive clean' ) fuels. Putting the 'ultra long change interval' oil in and then changing every 4-5K is throwing money away in buckets. Either you believe the stuff is worth the extra $$ because you don't have to change it as often--or you don't. It does not provide any superior anti-wear or anti-corrosion protection over the other oils mentioned in those 4-5K miles--but they WILL maintain a very high level of detergency and anti-oxidation performance much longer. A modern engine running good fuel and filters, on the highway, can very safely run these 'long-life' oils 15K miles between changes. Me--I change every 3-4 K using the 'conventional' oils mentioned because it gives me a chance to take a look underneath, ensures crankcase dilution never happens, ensures any trace coolant leak is spotted , ensured great engine protection, and is most cost effective. Oil is cheap, hard parts are expensive. 90% of us do not follow a driving cycle that best fits the 'long-life' oil forte.
