Hey everyone, I'm brand new to the group, and just bought my 240sx today, its still waiting at the dealership.

paid $1000 in total. Garden State Honda took it as a trade in. IT NEEDS WORK!!! BWAHAHAHAH! The outside is nasty but lucky me the only real paint chips (oh there are many believe that!) are on the front bumper, rear bumper, and hood...the things i plan to toss first. The engine looks a little iffy, maybe the head gasket needs replacing, but i test drove it, and made sure to step on it to see if itll drop gears and go insane and it made me happy enough and i had it goin 85 with no problem or unusual noise or smell. It is automatic unfortunately but i definitly plan to fix that good.

it has 95,000miles, the interior needs some carpet cleaning but over all for 1000$ including taxes and fees, i had to buy it.

the biggest thing wrong with it is the brakes, there have to be no pads left, but i have about 2200$ to spend fixing it up. I NEED RECOMENDATIONS FOR what i should do to improve the brakes while i have to fix em anyway, maybe something more performance oriented in braking. the 300zx swap is a little too expensive. I have to put some money in so i gotta ration my loot. Let me know what you think

let me be the first to welcome you. most of the stuff you have discussed has already been covered multiple times. go ahead and search for it, its acutally been covered in great detail. post some pics of your car. we would love to see. some advice, don't tell everyone too much of your aspirations with this car, because you will get flamed for it. take everything one step at a time. and have fun with your car. welcome to NICO.

id say for the brakes get new pads, maybe some stainless steel lines, if the rotors can be, just resurface them but if not get brembo o.e. replacements. for the engine fix what ever you were talking about and give it a little tune-up. then fix any little things that need it and if theres any money left lower it. forget about the paint, but if its really bothering you, you can get some touch-up paint. this should really be in 240 general btw.

and oh ya welcome to nico

Hey whats up Bud Im a mechanic and Id definetly say fix the brakes first and if your doing em you might as well do them good.I beileve on nissanperformanceparts.com they have a set of front and rear drilled and slotted rotors upgraded pads and steel braided brake lines for only 500 bucks but I dont kno if they apply to stock calipers...and besides your gonna wanna pump the dumb single psiton calipers up.And as a maryland state inspector helper if it hasnt been inspected yet brakes are actually 90% cause of failures in inspections so its definetly a must.Another thing you might wanna look into that alot of 240sx tend to vere into is some suspension work.Have sum one who knows what there looking at or you for say check all your bushings underneath and tie rods rack and pinion and ball joints.Nissanperformance parts also sells urethane bushing stes for very cheap and its a great durable and noticable upgrade.well good luck

If 300zx brake upgrade is too expensive, check out the Q45 conversion.
