Im new to this forum normally hang out at vwvortex since i have 97 passat glx, anyways i just purchased a 91 240sx hatchback 85,000 miles with a 5 spd from a buddy for 300$, but it has some probloms, i know the second gear syncro is shot cause it grinds everytime i put in gear. The outside is spraypainted flat black but overall its pretty clean not to many dents or anything. I noticed that the idle likes to jusmp alittle it will go from like 1500 rpm and drop down to like 750 rpm, what could that be? I also noticed a gas smell coming from it, so i popped the hood and the second injector closet to the front of the car was hissing and a small amount of fuel was visable on the intake manifold, what is that a broken seal on the injector?

I also hear a small knocking sound coming from the engine, is the lifters? What would be a typical problem regarding these motors? Also might be burning some oil too. Anything i should watch out for with these motors? Sorry would of search but i don't see a search button.

Heres a pick of my passat for views. sorry no pics off the 240 yet

leaky fuel injectors are a common problem, happened to me, it was the o-rings. as for the ticking its probably the timing chain, another common problem. and btw nice passat, i go on vwvortex every now and then

Some problems but not bad considering you only spent $300. As for the rough idle I'd check the grounding point, I heard some times just fixing that can smooth out the idle

Did i here vr6? Heres a pick of mine

JUst wondering what the car would be woth in this market, it has 85,000 miles interior is super clean the engine needs some small matience that im going to take care of, the only other problem is that the car used to be red but someone had the bright idea of spraypaintiing flat black, and the regular dings and dents associated with a 14 year old car. So what would this car go for?
