Just picked up my ca18det and can't wait to swap it in. But when I got it home I noticed a sensor on top of the intake manifold that was busted. Anyone know what this could be? Here is a pic.

Anyways heres another pic of the whole engine, as well as the car that it is going into.

The broken bit is related to the A/C - Idle control. If you are not planning to run your A/C with the CA then there is no need to worry. If you are, then you just need to source a used one or patch the 2 cables up. Mine is patched up really ghetto and it works just fine.

I think the top bit that has the broken connector would unscrew from the rest of the IACV (thas the name right?) without problems.

Btw, nice 240sx. Don't fancy the green wheels, but the drop is clean.

Yeah, it's the FICD (Fast Idle Control Device) and it gives the engine more air to bump up the idle when you turn on the AC to combat the parasitic loss presented by the compressor being engaged. As stated, if you don't plan on using AC you can just leave it.

It does unscrew, at the end closest to the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) it has flats that you can put an open end wrench around and turn it right out.

EDIT: Welcome to the love-hate world of CA ownership! It may give you some problems but it's all worth it, that little engine will make you really happy!

Thanks for the replies! Good thing I'm not running a/c, all my a/c lines are already gone from from the car. One less thing I have to worry about.
