Hey guys, newbie around here...I just bought a dark grey 95 240sx to compliment my 300z and i got a pretty ncie deal on it (or so i belive)...only one owner who was totally obsessed with the car, not a single amrk anywhere and he drove it like a girl. only 4 grand but had a decent pile of miles (134,000 ish) but it ran solid and if the ka does go, i can think motor swap or just get another ka fairly cheap since they aren't the "in thing right now" and maybe get it built pretty well...is there anything in perticular i should be looking out for at this point? the timing chain hasnt been changed yet, but from what i have heard so far the chain is a good deal more durable then a timing belt style setup (ala z car) and the motor doesnt need to be pulled to change it so its something i could more then likely handle...i just wish he wouldnt have gone with the Greddy cat back exhuast on it, it sounds alright but the ricey tip bugs the hell out of me...oh and one last point, theres a bit of a chatter from the ehat shield, am i best off trying to get it back in place and solid or just get it off? sounds great about the car. Real good deal. I bought my 95 SE for 6k with 170,000 miles. (kind of got ripped off but needed a car after wrecking my 92 Zcar)

But anyways, which heat shield are you referring to? Cause there are at least 4 that i can think of. There are 2 on the exhaust itself. (1 should have been replaced with your exhaust) and 1 on the downpipe just up from the Cat. There is also 1 directly ABOVE the cat that is shaped like a pan type thing. It attaches to the bottom of the car. That's what i replaced yesterday because of rattle. I believe there maybe 1 more above your greddy exhaust same style, bolts 3 screws to the underside of the car. (not entirely sure)

but anyways, to answer your question, yes take off the heat shield. The most difficult one is the one on the exhaust itself right up from the cat. I took my cat off to get the other one bolted to the underside off. You might be able to get it off without removing your cat though.

Hell I'm looking for an s14 too. Found one 150 miles away....95, clean title 5 SPD, 62K!!!! It's a dealer that's got it and has 6k on it..and you know he has room to work. The only reason it's not in my driveway is cuz my friends dad who is co signing my loan is screwing around. DAMNED OLD FART! But yea, if something happens there then I'll post something. Congrats on the s14 purchase, hopefully I'll join you soon.

alrighty, ill get some piccies up this weekend when i go back from college to get my digital caera i forgot back at home (only a 70 mile trip each way not a huge deal)
