I bought a red top off e-bay for a project car. I could use alot of pointers in the right direction, cause I dont know what to look for. Any suggestions?

make sure the turbo spins absolutely smooth/no rotor wobble

other than that same things you'd look for with any motor..

borrow/buy a compression meter.. clean the thing.. go to town on it.

:waits for more input:

Tuning? Get some sort of AFC or fuel management piggy back system and take it to a shop with a dyno..tuning is something I'd rather let the pro's handle. Also invest in a electronic boost controller. Keeps everything all nice nice and steady.

Well I like changing all the gaskets since the motor is out and all, like metal headgasket is nice, this is good enough to meet my power goals. (300-350)

Also check your oilpan, make sure its not damage. Clean your motor to look for leaks later on. Change your clutch or flywheel

Do you think maybe these kinds of questions should have been asked BEFORE you paid for the motor, chief?

^ Yea most people would do a lot of research and have a list of every part you need. I had a couple problems with mine, it's always nice to rebuild and start fresh with a new motor. Start with replacing:water pump + thermoALL Hoses! (about 13 altogether)+1 metal head gasketapexi afc 2 or neo for tuning at dyno shopdown pipe, etc.basics, belts, fluids....

damn dude... I wish you shoulda researched a bit more before buying a motor on ebay... I've heard horror stories about purchasing engines and customer service from ebay companies. If anything, everyone here would tell you not to buy ebay sold engines, unless you like seized engines.

hopefully yours wont be one of the stories to add to the list.

when you get it, change all the belts, gaskets, and fluids.

keep us updated after the swap. you should also probably remove the head and valve cover to see if theres any rust or anything (i forgot who, but someone made a thread about receiving an sr20, and finding the cams rusted)

Very excited that the SR came in yesterday. Two things I did notice from simply looking at the motor is, 1st Japan can be a very dirty place & 2nd the oil pan does look to have been crunched a little.

definatly pull the oil pan and check the oil pick up to pan clearence. I have seen many of them pressed up against the pan ad starve the engine of oil.
