hey guys, i just painted my 96 Q45, and was wondering if anyone was interested in pictures or details? the origional paint was "eggplant" i think is what the dealer reffered to it as, and me, being a 16 yr old guy who just got the Q from my dad, i needed a change in color. we checked out many shops and settled on one. I origionally was going to go solid black, but upon looking at the color book decided to go with a really dark blue or blue tinted black. i went with the darkest cobalt blue they had...and i got it back today. i still have butterflies in my stomach from the color, its a little bit different than what i imagined, but it looks great i think. i need to get used to it but i want yalls opinions. the end result was a midnight blue of sorts. the shop said 7 coats red, 7 coats blue, 4 clear coats... or something like that. the end cost was around 2500. i will post pictures up tomorrow.. right now its too dark. peace out. -marty

Sounds kinda like the factory color of my G20T, now when I was 16 I had a sweet ride like the Q, it was a 1971 Ford Torino with rust being the main color, Take care of the ride and dont do anything I wouldnt have done back then.:D

I gathered from the original post that it did not need painting per se - if I had a purple colored car, I'd paint it something else in a heartbeat too! :D

Q's are known to chip or dull in finish. Especially certain colors like charcoal grey, etc. I;m gonna have to do a paint job and it's sure as heell is gonna have some serious coats especially in the EMPIRE STATE!:help I was also surprised about the Q's paint problems but it is well documented.

News to me - Everything I've read says the Q's have some of the best, most durable paint jobs of ANY import marque. But I could be wrong.

Several early 90's LS400's here in Phoenix where the paint on the hood is faded/worn DOWN TO THE PRIMER!

This is true AZ, but with certain colors it seems to chip in certain areas around the bumpers. If you look it almost seems as if it never had enough coats. I've observed this on alot of Q owners up here but then again NY has to be probably one of the worst Q maintained states in the world! You're right about the LS400. I've seen tha first hand. I really don't want to pay 2000+ for a paint job right now but...

I see - and NOW I agree. Mine is real thin at the top edge of the bumpers (on the sides) and down around the foglights.

Also, the sunroof panel has dulled (and chips EASILY on the edges) but the surrounding roof paint is perfect.

Exactly. And here when you park in the street, the constant bumping from other cars wears it down. Then the salt on the roads, etc. A paint job is in order!

AAAAAUGHHH! No friggin' way - I'd have to drive a POS with no paint and lots of dents if I lived there.

NOBODY parks near Quella. My wife's STILL pissed at me for shoving this guy in the parking lot at the grocery store. (He let his cart bump into the rear quarter panel, then acted like it was nothing when I called him out.)

Yep - Between all those damn irritating NY accents, Yankees ball caps, horns honking, basturds begging for $$ on the corner, sh!tty weather, snotty rich people, pollution, taxicabs, toll bridges - I'd be one awfully irritable motherscratcher.

I'll stay right here, thanks.:D

oh yea marty, this post had something to do with pics of your new paint job! LOL looking forward to seeing those pics! hey hitman, tell us how you REALLY feel about NY!LOL my Q is charcoal grey and i do notice that the only spot where the paint is bad is on the bumper. it's in the grove that runs through the middle of the bumper. i have touch up paint that i'll be using to head that off. otherwise, the paint is excellent. jeff

My silver '94 Q has amazing paint, for 149,000 miles. The only bad spots are where the previous owner couldn't get in or out of his garage without swapping some bumper paint. I also have a couple of spots on the top surface of the hood, roof and trunk, where it looks like acid rain. Just a tiny milky white spot. I had the front bumper replaiced after an 18 wheeler sent me in the median at 85 MPH, for a grass-roots experience. The only damage was the lower opening had a tear. New front bumper and lower valence panel. I had the rear painted at the same time. It looks good.

My Black 2000 I30t has the same soft paint all my black Nissan Maximas, Altimas, and Pickups had. The car has 34,000 miles, and it looks like I drove through a sandstorm. The leading edge of the hood is pitiful. I think Nissan's Black paint needs something to make it harder. The other colors seem to hold up better.

Hey all,

Since you got your car painted recently, use our product "5 Star shine". You'll get the same results as other high end waxes but have a much better and longer finish protection. It will save you the time of having to re-apply wax to keep your paint protected.

Click on our ad on the left side near the top of this page and get the details. Be sure to use the customer discount code "vipdiscounts".-Chadhttp://www.5starshine.com'Never wax your car again"

Ok, I'll try to be fairly brief.....

Waxes when applied to a car make it look good for some time. But wax is exactly what it is. Wax. What happens when wax gets hot is that it melts. When it melts it gets sticky. The dirt sticks to the wax and the dirt gets embedded into the wax on top of the paint. In the long run you have to wind up stripping the wax off of the paint and reapplying it. Hence the overabundance of "wax cleaners" on the market. If you are trying to keep the paint clean it would make sense to put something on it that repels dirt and protects the paint, not attracts it.

5 Star Shine repels dirt unlike waxes. Even other products on the market that are not waxes still lay on top of the paint and eventually wear off because they don't have any way of remaining on the paint.

This is what 5 Star is/does.

The present invention is directed towards protective compositions and a method of applying same to a painted surface, including gel coats of fiberglass surfaces, or unpainted metal surface. The protective composition comprises negatively charged polytetrafluoroethylene (hereinafter "PTFE" formerly) polymer resin particles, preferably in an aqueous dispersion in the form of a hydrophobic colloid with resin particles of about 0.05 to about 0.5 microns or larger in size.

Before application of the protective composition, the painted or metal surface is positively charged, preferably with a cleaning polarizing composition solution (step 1 in the 2 step process) which removes any trapped sediments and insolvents from the pores in the paint or metal surface and which leaves the surface positively charged by virtue of using a cationic surfactant containing electropositive ions.

The second step is appliedwhich contains the PTFE.

The molecules of PTFE resin, which are negatively charged, i.e. containing negative ions, are pulled down into the pores in the surface of the paint (due to step 1 leaving the paint positively charged) or metal in view of the electrostatic attraction between the negatively charged molecules and the positively charged surface. As the treated surface is allowed to cure in a warm environment, the PTFE resin molecules elongate, causing them to physically interlock themselves to each other and fuse into the paint or metal surface.

The PTFE is inert to most harmful elements. In particular the action of ultra-violet and infra-red rays, photolysis, acidic and alkaline chemicals are resisted by the PTFE protective coating. The present invention therefore provides durability and resistance to the damaging effect of environmental elements, in combination with a very simple method of application.

Hopefully this makes more sense now and you can see as to why we have a US Patent because of its unique application and usage.see our ad link to our website on the upper left side of this page.
