Well I have a good desktop, but the parents offered to get me a new laptop since I'm going off to school this next year.

Just got off the phone with gateway so I now have one of these on the wayhttp://www.gateway.com/systems...2.php

Can't wait till it gets here. The screen can twist 180* then fold back down so you can hand write notes on the screen, should hopefully work pretty good since my notes have a lot of diagrams and symbols.

Since I have the desktop for heavy computing I am looking forward to checking out vista, since it comes with home premium.

2 gig ram, ~1.5Ghz C2D and ATI graphics.

The cool part is in independent tests this thing had about 5 hours of battery life minimum, thats with screen on full brightness, wireless and blue tooth in use and computer under load.

With a 3 year warranty it was just over a grand shipped.

Now I just have to wait for delivery, which sucks because I am damn impatient.

5 hour battery life and tablet screen are nice.

The CPU...eh... 667MHz FSB and 1.5GHZ clock leave a lot to be desired. At least they cranked up the L2 cache to 2MB though.

Still, it should be a nice computer for school and web stuff.

1.66GHZ! not some puny 1.5 :P es ok though...I still don't know about vista, but thinking about how much I did with a 2.4ghz P4 until I built my current desktop I can only imagine ANY C2D with do with casual stuff. If vista is too much of a resource killer I think it comes with a backup XP copy.

It will be nice if its beefy enough to run what ever software I need for the "Engineering Graphics" class I take next semester...but really its just gonna be for general computing.

edit: lol right as I am writing this they have the "S" version (lowest model) on HSN for $999, I got 2 versions above that for 899 :P

lol, your late to the party man, got it at the end of last year :D

Its a cool laptop though, I don't use the pen feature as much as I should but its incredibly nice to use as a mouse.

I'll put some pics up later today.

Thumb print scanner. I have it set to log me into the computer but thats about it. It can be akward to use because you have to slide your finger over the lense, and it is rejected if its to fast/slow/skewed/short..

It connects with this one hinge. The hinge can turn 180* ccw so that you can lay the screen down facing outwards. The hinge is pretty sturdy, but wobbles a tiny bit more then a typical laptop screen. Not a real big deal.

Screen layed down, with pen. The pen works really well. I still take pencil and paper notes, but this thing makes for great scratch paper.

Pen goes here.

You can click on a tab on the side of the screen at any time and this box pops out. I have to say it does an amazing job, and since it determines what you are writing by analyzing a word at a time it catches minor spelling errors too.

It still makes random small mistakes, and acronyms can be difficult but it also has a mode that analyzes letter by letter, and a mode with a virtual keyboard you can click letters out on.

It also comes with one note. One note is a Microsoft office product kinda like a stripped down word, but you can click and type anywhere on the page, and write over any text or pictures on the page. All of your pen strokes are stored as vectors rather then images, so they can be scaled with out any loss of quality. You could type a whole page and shrink it into a corner, then stretch it back out later.

It just sucks that I have always been terrible at drawing.

Battery life is almost what they claim, at like 4.5 hours of use. Its very nice, but partially due to this huge *** batteryThe battery life is worth the wierd battery, and it gives the keyboard a nice angle...but it also put all the laptops weight on a small point when its on your lap.

Its a very good laptop though, I love the feel of the keyboard, and the built in SD reader is cool. I don't use the pen a ton but its nice to have, and it isn't any less functional (or much more expensive) then a normal laptop. The writing is better then I would have thought. Almost no lag, but it is slightly noticeable if your writing fast. The pen is a great mouse, and even has a right click button, but sometimes can be finicky about dragging things (it tends to click instead of grab, or release even when you don't)
