Okay...

My original key just broke. My spare keys all SUCK in the locks. I don't know what it is... but I've had over a dozen made in the last 5 years and NONE of them worked in door locks at all.

So, today I ordered a keyless entry system and it should be here around Friday. I have installed so many car stereos that I can't even give an rough estimate on the total number. I have helped install a number of alarms too, although NONE of them had keyless entry options. In otherwords I'm not affraid to get eye-ball deep in wiring and electircal...

So, here's the question... what wiring headaches am I looking forward to? And general advice on the installation would be helpful.

Also... I spent the extra bling for a 7 program remote. Any good ideas what I can use the other 6 for? I'm already thinking remote starter, trunk opener, alarm, etc, etc... but if you've got a creative idea... BRING IT! Maybe an inline kill switch for the battery? Then the car can't be started without the remote... (easy to get around for an experienced thief... but cool anyway...

I'm interested in hearing what other people have done myself...

I have an avital car alarm (came with the car, alarm kinda obsolete now) that used to have keyless entry. It would only unlock the doors, not lock. I made the mistake of having my bf try to make the lock feature work. And now i have nothing at all, and it sucks because my driver's side lock was frozen/broken, so i had to spend some dough to have Nissan put in a new tumbler/ with a new key. Since then, i bought an aftermarket pw lock kit that has crapped out (taiwanese ebay crap but it was cheap)

I'm curious to know if there are any RELIABLE pwr door lock/keyless entry kits out there. Does Autoloc make good ones?

I had power locks installed with my Viper alarm system by some local alarm/audio shop when I decided I needed an alarm. It ran me around $300, but I've never had any problems.

Problem-free with the CrimeStopper II Remote Start/Keyless professionally installed for $260 (includes parts and horn beep feature). The remote has a switch to toggle between cars, but I just use it as an on/off to keep from starting the car with the keys in my pocket.

You could have jsut spent $99 at the nissan dealership and got the keyless entry programed and installed. It really is jsut turn it so the car is "ON" then you hold in ht e"lock" button and it will lock and unlock the doors to confirm.

I'm confused about everything past "it really is"

But anyway...

the keyless entry kit with the 7 program remote cost me $78 total... with tax. The install CAN'T be that hard!

Sky...

I thought about going to Nissan to get new door locks installed... but I've heard they charge a BUNCH to do it. Plus then you've got one key to get in the car... and one to start it. Not my idea of fun fumbling with keys when it's 20 below zero!

I am going to get a door popper (the kind that the idiots who shave their door handles use) for the trunk so it pops all the way open with the remote. I found the popper kit on ebay for $20!!!!! It's basically a mini electric brake piston!

I also want to see if I can rig it up to flash the parking lights and "BLIP" the horn like my parens '05 Quest and '04 Frontier (SUPER CHARGED BABY!). The Quest actually has the factory alarm... but the Frontier looks like it has an alarm to the casual thief. The keyless sets off the lights and horn just like an alarm activating.
