as posted in anouther post, i found out the tensiners were not replaced with the guides. so i decided to drive the car to the store to get the tensiners as the car will be torn apart for a few day. as i went to start it in my drive way, it cranked 2 to 3 revs and i heir a clunk and know the motor will not spin in any direction. so my ? is should i replace or rebuild for more power what would both caust if i r&r the motor my self?

Unless you have a state of the art race shop, just swap out a a JDM takeout carefully selected and rehabilitated per Q45tech's posts.

Probably about $30K to $40K to do it right. Really nothing out there, so it would all have to be done form scratch.

Read John Dixon's build in the VH/VK forum. He is doing a 5L dry sump and he has done a lot of pioneering work on which to build. Don't know about 400 HP, but 350-360 ft. lbs of torque should be acheived.

Cheaper, faster, better to just junk it and buy a 94-96Q. Sad,but true.

Gonna step to the side of the others. Rethink your options. Measure $ for $ VS value received not perceived. Come into the light!

Or, Pay your dues. The 4.5 will be great technology to learn on. You can build MUCH more H.P. from cheaper platforms. Only cheap part to a Q45 is the buy in.

Mark my word, 3 months from now, you will wish you would have junked it and started over with a 94Q. Unless the 92 has RECENTLY had $3-6 thousand invested in repairs/worn parts replacement, cheaper and easier to start over with a 94 than rebuild or replace motor with a junkyard takeout

Call around to a few of the major auto parts stores and see what they've got. I seem to remember an aftermarket gasket kit available on ebay so there might just be a lower end kit. I also recall at least one or two members selling new parts (pistons, heads?) who have changed their plans on rebuilds. Go back a couple of years in the Infiniti Parts For Sale forum and see if you can find them. Most likely their still available.

Since we haven't convinced you to drop in an engine yet here's a link to a nice looking one just waiting for you to say "ship it". David's a reliable seller and $400 plus shipping seems like a nice deal. Good luck.

Where's that short block that was on here a couple of years ago? Did Ryan have that?
